Autumn on the Northern Prairie Autumn on the northern prairie lasts only but a moment. Leaves are green then colorful and then on the ground in the space of a week. So with the moment right I set out with my DJI Mavic Pro in hand in the 8°C weather to capture the color. Here is the result and some set-up tips.
Preparations beforehand were to set the EXP for the yaw control to 0.15. This dampens yaw inputs to make smoother turns thus smoother video. In the GO4 app press Main Controller Settings > Advanced Settings > EXP > Enter 0.15 for the yaw value. See below for a quick run through.
The second setting is to use a fixed color balance. This gives uniform color throughout the video. On this day I used overcast. In the GO4 app press Camera setting > White Balance > Cloudy.
The third tip is to use a neutral density filter. This is only useful for video recordings. The filters makes fast moving areas of the video blur in the direction of motion. The faster the motion the more the blur as in this scene near the ground.
The final tip is editing to music. Most editors can show the waveform of the audio track. With this displayed and zooming in and you can see the beats of the music. It is then a simple matter to position the edit points on the beats.
