I've been using LumaFusion on an iPad, and I found a way to do it, though it is a bit labour intensive, and doesn't always look great. It'll probably work in a lot of video editors, so I'll explain here in case it's helpful for anyone.
1. In your timeline, clone the video clip you want to blur/redact something from, and stack them on top of each other on separate tracks, with the clone on top.
2. In the clone, create a "crop" effect with keyframes, that crops to include the thing you want to blur/redact. If you play only this video, you should see the face or license plate (or whatever) only, moving around.
- Step 2 is the labour intensive one, because if the face/license plate is moving along a complex/curved path, it'll take a lot of keyframes and adjustments. Keeping it looking smooth is challenging.
3. Add an effect to the clone, doing a blur or whatever it is you want to do.
That should do the trick. I based this off a tutorial video I found that uses an image editor to cut out the image of the license plate from one frame, blur it, and then create a "video" in the editor by animating that image using keyframes. The problem with that is that if the face/license plate moves through different light level (eg. car drives out of the shadows) the license plate is always the same brightness, etc. With my crop & blur overlay approach, it's using the plate from each frame, so it's the correct brightness, etc. |
