Hi all,
sorry in advance for a longish post but I have some questions for the people that know.

I am using a P4 std with ipad mini 2
go app 4.2.8
p4 02.00.0600
controler 1.9.3
ipad mini 2 -1490 model on ios 10.3.1

I have been having trouble with it since the big update over a year ago. Flying erraticly and terrible image transmission problems (green/black screen).
I have got to the point where it now flies well and range seems ok but.....

none of the modes work (follow me, tripod etc) the screen goes instantly green/black no matter how close the p4 is.
Also I now read that certain upgrades will render my ipad mini 2 useless?

As disapointing as this all is, at least it flies and the ipad seems to work.
Is it worth the risk of further upgrades? 02.00.007?? or newer GO4?
I dont want to spend any more money on ipads or make the P4 even worse.

Between my P4 and my Osmo plus, the whole DJI experience has truly been " an experience" lol
I would not buy anything from them again.

Thank you for any advice

What risks, it sounds like you've not much to lose by doing upgrades which generally give improvements.

The firmware on your P4 was  Beta version released as an intermediate fix for some of the shortfalls of v02.00.0106. And 02.00.0700 is the formal release from ten months ago.

As you have iOS 10.3.1 (what happened to 12.1 ;-)  ) you should not have any problems with DJI Go 4 V4.3.4 which is optimised for iOS 10 and above. There might even be some improvement.

To quote DJIs change notice:-

"To provide users with a more stable device connection experience, we have fully updated the iOS’ MFI hardware connection service, speeding up the connection to the remote controller and making it more stable. Also, the devices will be more stable when hot-plugging.

As iOS’ MFI connection is only available for iOS 10 or higher, DJI GO 4 v4.3.4 and after will no longer support iOS 9. "

Go for it.  As Aardvark said, it doesn't sound like you have much to lose.

Hi guys,
thanks for the replys.

I am a little hesitant only because of how bad my P4 was after the last round of updates.
I will do the .700 P4 update if its recommended. Fingers crossed it works and maybe even fixes the 'no modes' problem.
The extra modes were the reason I started with the upgrades to begin with, now I have none lol.

As far as the Go4 with iPad mini2 updates, why are others saying mini2's are not powerful enough for the latest Go4?
I read about green/black screens and overheating pads?? will this not happen if I am on 10.3.1 and go 4.3.4??

As it stands at the moment, I can fly with iPad mini2 ok but no modes. Not ideal but better than nothing??

Thanks again

The apps are definitely becoming more power hungry.  It's good to have a device wit good processing power now days.

for sure but I only use a tablet for the drone and after all the hassle thus far,
there is no way I can justify spending even more money on something that used to work great.
So I need the iPad mini 2 to keep on working at least as good as it does.

That last distance/connection problem seemed to be sorted with drone beta firmware reinstalls rather than newer Go4 so fingers crossed for .007

thanks again

You could always back up your iPad 2 to your PC using iTunes. That will allow you to roll back to the current DJI Go 4 version when needed,  if update to DJI Go 4 to V4.3.4 doesn't work as expected.

Edit:- it would also allow you to update to latest iOS, see if anything works a bit better than before.

Thanks for the replys

latest update as its a nice day here in North of England.

Installed the latest .007 to the P4 but did not update Go4 from 4.2.8 on the iPad mini2.
The installer hung at 89% but drone restarted and hooked up with iPad / controller ok.

Took it for a fly and its struggling to stabilise horizontally a little but is pretty bad vertically.
Shoots up in the air when travelling but ok when going really slowly or  hovering.

On the plus side, the modes seem to be back to working and the fight range was ok along with the iPad mini performance and heat.

I will try reinstalling the firmware in case the 89% thing is the cause of the erratic flight behaviours.

On a massive downside my 2nd battery didn't come out of hibernation and is ruined
VERY F@*king annoying as it was ok last time out and had an easy life.
expensive to replace too !!

Thanks again

Well another nice day so more chance to test.
Not good news

Reinstalled .007 using the Assistant 2 software instead of Go app.
Worked great and got to 100%

Went to fly this morning and its terrible.
wandering around with a weird sound to the motors.
The vertical stabilisation is also very worrying.

I want to roll the firmware back but it says my only option is .106??
This does not work for my drone, I was on .600

Can one of the admins on here hook me up with the .600  firmware like last time please ??
I would much rather have no modes and a drone I can fly than this.
Pretty dissapointing and this was my initial worry in the first post

Thanks

Try a refresh of the 02.00.0700 and a factory reset using Assistant 2, after update recalibrate IMU & VPS if there are any stability problems.

Have you checked for any damage to props, or loose prop' mounts on motors ?

Just as a thought, was your P4 new when you bought it, it's not shown activated against you ?

Its taken until now for a non rainy test day here, but todays its dry

I downgraded to .106
Removed SD card
Refreshed with .700
did factory reset.
Recalibrated cams

it was quite windy but I think its a success!!
It fought hard to stay hovering over a spot
With the last two attempts of .700, when you flew then came to an abrupt stop, the drone shot up in the air.
It also would drop a good few meters when travelling .
These quirks appear to now be gone.

The modes all work too, so quite happy.
I will test further when the wind drops and update.

I am not sure what made the difference unless of course it really is "three times the charm"

Cheers

Good to hear that all appears to be working now, a refresh of 02.00.0700 would have replaced all the files without the need to downgrade/upgrade. But effectively the same thing, so all's well that ends well :-)
