We recently contructed a pulley setup off the side of a building with a counter weight system to create vertical tracking shot. We used the ronin to stablise the shot and attached it via the top handle.

Our main problem was that without resistance from anything the pan motor made the top bar spin (fast!). This would in turn cause the rope to twist and also mid way through the lift in the middle of the line causing a swinging effect.

I turned the stiffness settings right down (between 6-10) and this obviously slowed the spinning effect but we were still not entirely happy with the smoothness of the shot due to the rotating top bar.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this spinning or tips on using this setup to get a stable smooth shot?
