Greetings from three Phantom owners and flyers in Socorro, NM. I use mine for documenting local historical sites, ancient pueblos, abandoned mines, and mapping El Camino Real trail ... most hard to get to on the ground, but very accessible with a drone. You'd be surprised what you can see and discover from 100-200 feet up. The dry desert air and remote areas makes for good hassle-free flying, no wife-interference, and good ranges (about 6,500 feet on my P3S). Almost no water or trees to eat a drone! Enjoy your flying in NM.
Soccoro has to be more interesting than Columbus. Just north of me are the Florida mountains. Interesting, but they are a wilderness study area and no drones are allowed. I'll look around for the more photogenic sights.
You're right about the lack of water hazards, but the mesquite looks just plain evil.
Maybe we can get together for a fly-in. I'll need more stick time on my bird.
EDIT:07:26 local. I just looked at the map again. The Florida Mountain wilderness study area is about 60% of the range, mostly to the east. If I'm careful, I might fly a mission on the west slope.
