Will DJI make a thermal camera for the Enterprise. My agency is interested however with no thermal camera option we are waiting. Anyone hear anything about a possible thermal camera?

A thermal imaging camera on a Mavic? You are aware that the XT series of thermal imaging Zenmuse cameras for the Inspire and Matrice 200 series are worth around £10,000. It will be quite some time before we see a camera like that on a personal drone like a Mavic and, as things stand, the gimbals are not modular on the Mavic 2's. If you need a thermal camera on a drone asap your best bet would be to buy the Zenmuse XT or XTR and use it with your Inspire 1 now.

Keep an eye on FLIR. I have a feeling we will probably see a 3rd party thermal system for it from them. Something like this, but a as a kit like they have sone of the other DJI drones.

I use higher res cameras for industrial inspection but for finding bad guys or some weather penetration, heat loss survey etc seems like a fire and forget system....

A thermal camera without a stablized gimbal is damned near impossible to use.

That's a really bad product. It transmits the thermal video over 5.8GHz FPV gear so you get really bad interference and poor picture quality. Also a very clunky and heavy setup that requires charging of multiple different batteries etc...

DJI is supposed to make an announcement Monday 12/17 at 9am and it looks like it is going to be a thermal for the Mavic2E

i wonder if there is a way to take a "cheap" android device or a rasp pi use wifi mirroring (on a different band than going to fly with) and a $300 Flir One Pro and 3D print them together with a small lithium battery and mount them to the base of the drone on some rubber vibration damping mount or maybe for cheap...  i imagine it can be done and sold for $500-ish if done this way.. the only issue will be stability against the drone leaning but then again on a mavic pro or a mavic 2, you got 2 pounds pay load to play with maybe able to buy a cheap chinese carbon fiber gopro gimbal and find a way to attach it to that....

Anyone see this so called "Announcement"

You read correctly but the claim is not true.
The FLIR Lepton 3.5 camera has a resolution of 160x120px which is nice to have but far from what the number from DJI suggest. My best guess is that the 4K image is used to help upscale the thermal image somehow.

FLIR tools - but if the images are from a M2ED, the tools are useless as the images from a M2ED do not contain any thermal or radiometric data.
