Hi,

I've a question, maybe it's a newbie one. I read the battery user manual but i didn't find a clear answer to this.

I bought a brand new battery and I need to travel with it, I know that came in hibernation mode but also know that it's recommended to almost deplete it before taking it with you at the plane.

Should I discharge it?.

Thanks.

It's recommended to discharge it below 50%.
Besides it would be terrible if they check and discover
you have a fully charge battery and don't allow you on the plane with it.

Do you know of any airlines that require batteries to be discharged below 50%? I've never heard of such a requirement.

I travel to Louisiana a few months ago on delta and batteries were checked and drone swab.
I was told my batteries need to be below 50% and were in separate compartment so they
wouldn't touch. This was my second interaction with delta.

But haven't had an issue with any others.

It says that on the battery recommendations by DJI:

"Before carrying the Intelligent Flight Battery onto an airplane, the
battery must first be discharged to below 5%. Only discharge the battery
in a fireproof location."

Right. That doesn't make it an airline requirement though.

Did you ever hear of people draining their mobile phones and laptops down to 5% before boarding planes? Those rechargeable batteries are no different than drone batteries.

Interesting. Maybe a misinformed employee?

Here are Delta's current battery requirements:

Mmm you're right.
So you're saying that the DJI recommendation it's not valid?.

I don't know but maybe this Drones batteries are a bit different in terms of voltage from the cell phones batteries.

I'm saying I don't know why DJI recommends that. It doesn't make much sense and is not required by any airlines (as far as I know).

Misinformed maybe.

Same thing happen when I travel with my P3A last year. This also was a small airport.

Because of that I make sure mine are below 50%. I don't want to
be the guy who miss his flight because I had a full battery.

I always travel with fully charged batteries . In the airline dangerous goods manual of most airlines it doesnt say you have to discharged them only carry them in handluggage ( so not checked in luggsge in the hold) .some airlines say , max of 20 spare batteries you can take and some airlines the number you need for personal use. Just check the chapter dangerous goods , lithium batteries of the partical airline on their website. Most airlines stick to iata dangerous goods.

And a tip: always take a printout of this. As even some airline staff do not know the rules

Hello there. Yes, we require our Customer to discharge the Intelligent Flight Battery before carrying it onto an airplane, the battery must first be discharged to below 5%. Only discharge the battery in a fireproof location. And kindly store the Intelligent Flight batteries in a ventilated location. Also, we suggest you contact the Airline for more information about their rules and regulation. Thank you.
