I don't understand how he got the control range being at ground level surrounded by tall buildings in an urban setting?

Voltage should be same - obviously wired parallel. Biggest issue would be the weight, and that seems pretty much a non issue too. Think I want one!!!  Does anyone think this could harm the Mavic in any way?

The extended flight time is quite a novelty. Personally, I have no interest in long range or extended flight time, but for some, it must be very exciting.
A question was asked about the harm it might do to the drone. Weather conditions will be most significant. The motors and control circuitry will generate more heat because of the load, so higher temperature of the air might promote  early failure.  Happy flying and look out for hazards. Oops, how can you at that sort of range?

Interesting video, but what a stupid location to test such a thing. Its only a question of time before a drone drops out the sky killing someone and ending the hobby totally.

Hi Alex B, thank you for sharing this to our co-pilots. The said battery is not supported by DJI. As of the time being, batteries being sold on our online store are only supported. We thank you all for the support. Cheers!

Ya. Keep drone in sight at all times. What a jackass! As usual humans will f it up for everyone. As a part 107 holder I’m getting sick of seeing idiots do this kind of irresponsible stuff.

if you are not part 107 you dont have to adhere the the rules tho, only enforceable on part 107 pilots as part 107 is commercial UAS.  also part 107 is FAA which is america this is done in china.

how is this ruining it for everyone? the pilot did not crash or cause panic.. and if he or she did how does that represent you or us as a community..?
or are you trying to win brownie points with us?  i dont fly line of sight, i dont have a spotter, i fly exlusively live view and i tend to fly miles away at a time, fight me

I tend to hold the local rules aswel (even tough VLOS can be interpretated on a number of ways)
But, what if you are not from the US? I don't give a crap about their rules (when i am not in the states), and nobody can blame me for that

Most probably, the motors or their circuitry or both will fail soon!

VLOS can only be interpreted one way, vision line of sight, simple you have to use your vision to be able to see your drone, if you can’t see your drone, then you are not with vision line of sight.

Only exception to this rule is if you need glasses or contacts to correct your own vision these are allowed.

Its really interesting and a good find and I am sure will be great for the distance fliers amongst us. Granted not for me, even if it came from DJI I still wouldn't need the distance. If I loose sight of our drones my bottom starts twitching, distance flying just doesn't float my boat.

I know, that is my meaning of VLOS aswel, but lets say it is open for discussion, there is a threat somewhere that is completely about VLOS/LOS, with a lot of different meanings.

Biggest advantage is being able to do longer time lapse recordings, not so much the distance for me!

True! That’s a good reason for a bigger battery to have longer flights!

First using an unapproved battery is going to invalidate your insurance.   Rules for aircraft are not the same as for automobiles.

Second the flight characteristics will change due the the change in centre of gravity.  This will as noted by others put more of a strain on the motors. Also the stabilisation.  Also he firmware is designed around the original aircraft.

Third whilst this may nor directly affect any of us in a different country to the OP, the first time  some one uses one of those batteries in YOUR country and there is a problem the authorities will ban their use. And add a few more restrictive rules "just in case".

With all governments and Civil Aviation Authorities getting to grips with regulating the UAV/Drone  sector now is not the time to push the limits in silly ways.

I wish that DJI made batteries like that! That have double the capacity of a standard battery.
Just imagine, 50 minutes of flight time! That would be just amazing!
I’m more than sure that many DJIs customers would be really happy and would buy that double battery!

It’s a long time in the air Alex, I wouldn’t want to sit through the video. (;+):::::::::

I wonder about the stability of this banking hard right or left in sport mode couldn’t be the same balance you get with having the normal set up.

Don’t know I have no problem changing batteries.

Well there are drones available right now with electric mixed with petrol engines that fly for hours!

Totally understand rules are there for their reasons, but I really doubt how many interesting videos or pictures we see on the internet were shot 100% by the rules. If they were then all we see will be people shooting their kids playing in the backyards. Oh sorry, these may not include those who live too close to a NFZ.
