Hi,

I am planning to buy the freewell phone holder for the RC.  I want to connect my android micro usb phone (note 4) to the side port of the RC but the cable that came with the mavic air is too short.  Is there such a special cable (the side port doesn't look like a regular micro usb android port, and I'm afraid to use the micro usb phone cable that came with my phone).  Is there a difference using the usb port at the bottom of the RC?  Please advise and thank you.

It is the regular mirco USB, just DJI used this strange shape for some reason... I'm always charging RC on this port using normal micro USB cable.
So don't be afraid, just plug in correct orientation.

No, you can connect RC to you phone using the bottom USB port as well.

I always use the Regular USB data cable for my mavic air.

you can have a try to search "dji mavic air cable" on amazon or ebay (something like that), I think you can find that cable you need.

You're most welcome, Georgie.

The reason the USB port on the controller doesn't look normal is because it's a Micro-A instead of the usual Micro-B everyone's used to. For who knows what reason, DJI is using the Micro-A on all of their Mavic series controllers (maybe they got a truckload at a fire sale). The Micro-B male plug will go into the Micro-A port and work, problem is, it's really easy to break the port if you're not careful.
