If I can think of one safety feature for drones it would be a parachute delivery system for the unlikely event of signal loss over a certain amount of time or by some sort of system failure where it would be prudent for the engines to stop followed by an automatic parachute deployment or by manual deployment after stopping the engines by controller and deploying the chute for some other reason. This would allow a soft landing rather than an object dropping at high speed where property damage and or injury or death could occurr. The area of attachment would be the under body of the drone, by creating a slight design change (bubble) where a deployment compartment for a chute would be located at the front of the drone where the camera is located or at the tail end of the aircraft where there is no possibility of damaging the camera after chute deployment. This is possible in my opinion. Please add any other thoughts, ideas or suggestion, thanks.

Just an idea from someone who had many years in aviation as a pilot in manned aircraft.

A sensor that detects water at landing site should also (if battery permits) cancel forced landing / auto landing and set the unit to hover safely at 1 or 2 meter high until its right owner can either
1) regain control or
2) find a boat to hand catch the unit.

Would be useful when the aircraft realizes it is in a NFZ and decides to force land or it decides to autoland in a river instead of RTH after a connection lost.
