The question you ask is not something hat can be really answered in a sentence or two...
4K vs 1080p - As mentioned, 4K has 4 times the resolution, or sharpness. I disagree with the people that say if you only have 1080p TV right now just shoot at 1080p, that is under the assumption that you are never going to want to look at it in the future when you do have a 4k TV or screen. You can take a 4k resolution file and go down to 1080p with no loss, but you can not go up. I personally recommend using the highest resolution that you can.
24fps vs 30fps - Search Youtube, there are several great videos about this. The short answer is that 24fps gives you a look like a movie while 30fps gives you the "soap opera look". Honestly, you are not going to notice a lot of difference for most people, the more important part is that if you are using this video along with video from another source, you want everything to match (or be multiples), so everything should be 30fps or 24 fps, when you mix them together, you end up with stutters in your video because it has to add in a frame every once in a while to even things out.
25fps vs 30fps - This is more about where you are located. I do not know if you know PAL and NTSC, but this is related, it is related to the power grid where you live. In the US, the power is 30hz so most electronics for the US were designed with that in mind, including TVs while in Europe they use 25hz, so you get smooth results when the FPS matches the power grid HZ. I do not know if this still applies any more, this was before 480P and above were common TV standards, the old SD TV's this relates to how often they would draw their screens.
30fps vs 60fps - As mentioned, the 60FPS is good for high motion footage because there is less movement per frame since they are happening more often. BUT you need more light to record at 60FPS, because the shutter speed needs to be at least 1/60th of a second versus 30fps can go down to 1/30th.
In the end, I recommend 4k@30fps for most people that are in the US (aka have 30hz power grid) and similar locations, and 25fps if your power grid is based on 25hz. This is for people that that do not know better what they want, it is a good default |
