Is memory card required for bother the Mavic pro 2 and the new controller? Where is the card slot on the controller used for capturing?

No, an SD card is not required in the controller, in fact if there is one there it will prevent activation for some reason.

The slot allows you to transfer or view files to and from the controllers internal storage or view drone SD card files.

You can also increase the SRC internal memory by combining the inserted SD card with internal memory.

No you don't need a sd card for the CR

is there a way to format the sd card from the smart controller?

I had a good search and found nothing!

If the card is a format that is not recognised it will prompt you to prepare it for either personal use or internal memory use.

Personal use is for data transfer, done use etc, internal use is as an expansion of the internal memory.

If it is formatted correctly it still ask what it’s to be used for as far as I can see it adds a folder ‘android’ to the card.

There does not appear that there is a way to force a format.
