It's official Monty.... you've gone mad, flying in the rain, but still it's a great shot, so there's method to the madness.
Hahahahahahahaha
Thanks John.
There is a story behind this behavior I guess.
This is the location where I spend the most time waiting for trains as a kid.
I think we made at least 20 visits to this station, starting when I was 14 years old.
The first visit was with nothing more than an old VHS camera, producing only mediocre footage. But I'm very glad I still have that footage. (1995)
Moving to a Hi-8, Mini DV and Full HD camera I captured the same freight train over and over again.
The grass got taller, as did the trees, but the train still looked the same.
Now this last visit I had a drone (finally) BUT, I also knew it would be my last time.
Even though we love the area, the campsite we stayed looked worse every year.
No maintenance and lack of visitors tell the story of 'the end' of an era for me.
So when I did the math and knew this would probably be the only time I could have a chance of capturing this train with a drone I really had to catch it.
Everywhere in Sweden these little stations are closing down, so next time (in who knows how many years) there probably won't be a train here anymore.
I was not planning on a kamikaze action, since the weather looked very nice when we arrived that morning, but the train was late and all of a sudden a big black cloud arrived over the hills.
Thunder and rain started to ruin my only hope of a drone shot from this place, but right when the horn sounded that warned us the train was coming, it felt like the worst was over.
So I rushed to start the MP and hoped for the best.
And he performed without a flaw!
The lighting was not the best and there were some drops on the lens (you will see in the video someday), but I am super lucky that I managed to take these shots.
So yes, I've gone a little mad..... |
