What is the difference between .txt, .csv, .dat log files?

I have a Phantom 3 Pro, I am using an iPhone with the DJI Go app and my laptop is a MacBook.  I am trying to develop a process (workflow) for capturing photos, videos and log files for each flight.  It appears to me that DJI records the same flight log data in a variety of filetypes: .txt (text), .csv (comma separated variable) and .dat (data files who's format is defined by the creating application).  It appears that they all contain the same data, so why 3 different formats?  There are different tools for displaying data, but the resulting maps appear identical: .txt files can be displayed using this website at DJI: https://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/, whiel the .csv and .dat files can be viewed using variety of 3rd party log viewer apps, however this one: https://www.mapsmadeeasy.com/log_viewer, won't read either the .Dat or .CSV files created by my Phantom 3 Pro.  Seems like there is more going on here than I am understanding - can anyone explain why there are 3 file types, what are the differences and is there one type I should be selecting over another?

Sorry if this is an obvious question.

thanks,
- Derrick

I think csv is comma separated values.

The phantomhelp site is not a DJI site, it was developed by a DJI customer/pilot just like you and is shared with the community.

Here is a site which was developed to allow you the ability to read the dat files:  https://datfile.net/Doc/intro.html

Again, this is a site developed by a customer/pilot just like you and is shared with the community.

Here is a recent thread from another forum showing some of the things you can see by viewing the dat files:  https://phantompilots.com/thread ... pdated-poll.141803/

Good luck.

DJI already saves the recorded flight data with each flight record in the app for you.
There's no need to do it separately.
