That had to be one hell of a tail wind as much as DJI has powered down the I2's since they were first released.  The fastest speed I recorded when I first got mine was 81mph, now I'm lucky to get 60mph with a tail wind.

When the I2 was first released, I was bidding with the local RC shop regarding the top speed dji declared.

I said that top speed would have been decreased before the first units shipping...and I won!!!

They started saying 67 mph of top speed and we all know what is now.

They started saying from 0 to 80 Km/h or 0 to 50 Mph in 4 seconds and even for this we all know what is now...

Yeah, I wasn't believing when I saw it...

It didn't last long in my case but cruising for mile at 65MPH has been achieved. One of the big advantages of the Inspire is that it's power enables long distances on just the one battery. 40,000+ feet is easily achievable with one TB48 (that's total distance BTW). .

I was usually flying counterwind for a Km, then coming back at full throttle, now I send at two km, 70 metres high and then coming back at full throttle, so I can correct the track while looking for the top speed and it works.
Of course the second battery and even the higher weight help in looking for the top speed

Pardon my annoying persistence and correct me if I'm wrong ... So, what you're mostly doing with your bird is spinning the wheels? Please don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong nor punishable about it. I'm just curious. For such - purely recreational activity - you may consider flying without main camera payload and rely on FPV monitoring only. I'm sure that without heavy cargo Inspire 2 may reach yet another speed record, if that's what you're after ...

I like too flying at full throttle in heavy winds, as you have seen.

Depends what the job is as in certain situations an Inspire 2 can't do the job that a Mavic 2 Pro can do (such as close proximity flying) and the specs of the M2P Hasselblad camera are very similar to that of the X4S (1" 20mp sensor). But my point wasn't to compare a £1,349 drone to one worth several thousand but to highlight that the drones are starting to work correctly now as clearly the price of the drone does not guarantee a glitch and bug free experience...

Correct. One cannot do the job of the other...and of course the quality of the camera goes up day by day. I2 is already two years old.
I even own a Mavic Pro, that's the only capable of going to 6 km without transmission issues, instead of the 4.4 km of the I2, but when there is no wind.
As you've seen, the I2 can manage 35 knots wind, and more I'm sure...not the Mavic...

The M2P has new tech to auto pitch the angle of the drone to fight winds - I've maintained 25MPH in P-mode flying into c.35MPH winds and unlike my Inspire 1, the horizon amazingly remains dead straight. Hard to believe but I say the M2P is far more advanced than the Inspire 1 in my experience.

CE here in the UK. I tend to fly in VLOS but have seen videos on YT of the M2P reaching 5.5KM in CE.

One is still deemed to be a professional drone and the other a consumer - that's why. The Inspire 1 V2.0 that I own was released in November 2015 and remained on the market until Decmeber 2018 with the Mavic 2 Pro being released in August 2018 - that's less than three years difference in the developement of the hardware though FW updates continued on the Inspire 1 until July 2017. Not quite sure where you got the "more than five years" from...

Well, it's more my intuition as an engineer than knowledge based on documented facts. Inspire 1 (which I owe from the day one and still enjoy) was a breakthrough piece of technology, probably a result of at least 2-3 years of development. There's no other quadcopter of this kind, not even a kick-off. Whatever happen after was based on this experience. New birds, models, improvements, tweaks, upgrades, releases happening more often and faster than ever before. Therefore I still believe that 4-5 years is a reasonably estimated period of time between the birth of Inspire and Mavic concept. Which - for change - has traces of Phantom family blood in veins. It's complicated, needless to say ...

And given that the original Mavic was released in 2016 I am confident that R&D would have taken a year or two on that time line so again, the 4-5 year gap between the Inspire and Mavic line would not be a reasonable estimate. Always best to stick with facts over intuition when the facts are known.

" Hard to believe but I say the M2P is far more advanced than the Inspire 1 in my experience. "

That's what you said. Knowing that Mavic 2 Pro was released by the end of 2018 (please correct me if I'm wrong). This is roughly 3 years after Inspire 1 V2 release, right? Let's skip the development issue, but In this industry Inspire 1 is a vintage model by all means. Not fair comparison to M2P in many aspects. So, it's not really hard to believe that M2P may - and will - outperform Inspire 1 in many aspects, although we're talking apples and oranges here ...

You said more than a five-year gap - I corrected you - as it's two years, nine months. The Inspire 1 is still £500 more expensive than the Mavic 2 Pro based on RRP in the United Kingdom. So believe it or not you get a more advanced drone for £500 less than the 'vintage model' as you put it...
