SURF FOILING
Surf Foiling is an exciting and relatively new sport. It is taking hold worldwide, gaining popularity even amongst traditional surfers. Unlike regular surfboards, the surf hydrofoil or wing elevates the surfer well above the water line.  Traveling at a rapid rate of speed, surf foiling offers a new, unique and innovative water sport experience.



Note that flying this close to the surface was a big challenge and adventure.

Curious to see if the contest (judges) consider pilot skill, as well as beautiful location images.

imo...it's one thing to fly over magnificent surroundings (don't we all love those shots).

However, totally another to capture the energy and excitement of moving targets using controlled flight skills and maneuverability.

That takes practice, luck and a willingness to take risks.

Indeed, it was a challenge to fly so close to the water's surface.

But when I look at the results; nature's beauty combined with the graceful skills of the participants, it was all worth it.

Actually I did not turn off the sensors.

In one instance, they activated and the drone sort of stalled when they sensed an object. (surfer)

However, I was able to instantly ascend upwards which probably saved my butt.

I don’t know if I like foiling or piloting more!
Really nice waves (where is that?) and cool images.

Really nice video. Great piloting and nice work keeping the surfers centered. Could not have been as easy as it looks to anticipate their direction and keep them framed in a nice, smooth shot. Also, the exposure was very nice, even with the sun in the background. Wasn't too dark or washed out. Nice work. However... there were a few scenes where the frame-rate was slowed down too much and got too choppy. 1:09 and 1:45 were too choppy for my taste. What frame rate did you shoot at? I personally would rather up the frame rate on certain scenes and sacrifice a little bit of quality, but again... just my personal preference. But VERY, very nice video!

It's a certain kind of flying that demands focus and can really get your attention from time to time.

Which is true of most piloting.

Was also referring to the surf btw, I've done a little bit of normal surfing in the past and this looks awesome too

Yes, from what my friends, who are experienced surfers tell me, it's a bit of a learning curve.
You catch the wave in a different manner, you don't need a paddle but some use them.
However, young guys as well as older guys/girls are foiling these days.
It's gaining in popularity.  Some have told me they'll not go back to regular surfing!
I also know there's a bit of controversy in that regular surfer are a bit wary and cautious around foilers...for obvious reasons and some are a bit hostile too towards the sport.
The cool thing about it is in certain condition for example, where surfers struggle to catch waves, foiling is actually easier.  I find it all very interesting!
I'm going to post a revised video one of these days.

Well, saw the results of the contest today.
The video evidently made no impression on the judges.
Congrats to the winners and all the entrants for that matter.
Lots of good videos and stills out there these days.
However, I'm wondering if they shouldn't have a separate category called "Action Sports".
It would be based on a sort of FPV pilot skills, risk taking and manipulating the drone around moving targets.  
Nice visuals as well but not ALL about flying over beautiful locations.

Foiling is so much fun. I do it with my kite, you can see it some videos above.
Without a kite on a SUP looks very interessting to me.
Do you use ActicTrack for filming?
