I would like to be able to do some of my own repairs on my Phantom 4 pro v2.0, but can't find a repair guide anywhere or a bunch of good exploded diagrams.  My immediate need is to make sure that I have correctly fixed the portion of the gimbal where the gimbal shaft coming from the camera properly attaches to the shaft coming out of the bottom of the drone.  Can anyone point me to at least an explded diagram of this connection?

Hi Flying Mole, we do not have the repair manual can be provided because we do not recommend customer to repair by themselves for the warranty and safety concern. If your drone needs the repair service, it is recommended to send back to our official repair center for assistance, please contact our support team to start a ticket: www.dji.com/support

Aloha Mole,

As Mindy says, it is not recommended and the diagrams are not public.  Your Phantom should still be under warranty, so a repair should work out in your favor.  Keep in touch with Mindy, she can be very helpful in the process.

That seems currently sensible. But as the 4 is no longer available I would suspect that spare parts will slowly dry up. Then those of us who want to keep our craft flying will have to look towards non OEM parts. Not a good thought for me personally, but at that point we may well need the repair manual as described. Clearly DJI will not commit to keep the spares indefinitely, so it is a problem that will arise, especially as many of us cannot afford to buy the replacements that are being, or will be, produced. A situation not unlike keeping old cars on the road.

No one will ever see a diagram of any dji product.  It's one of their cardinal rules.

You won't get anything from DJI other than "please send it in for repairs". And as Alabama says, you will not find any documentation or diagrams for any DJI products. This stuff is Top-Secret info for them. Closest thing you might get is looking on YouTube to see if anybody has posted up video of what you are wanting to do...…..which a lot of videos are out there for just about any type of problem/repairs with any of the Phantoms, or other DJI products.

I doubt I could convince them to do a warranty repair, since I cannot prove that the fault is a manufacturing defect.  Besides the cost of shipment, it would be cheaper for me to take it to my local drone repair shop if needed.  I don't think that the repair is much of anything; I just want to make sure that I did what I did correctly and it would be obvious from looking at an exploded parts diagram.  I haven't found anything on YouTube yet that gives me what I need.  As an aside, I am quite knowledgeable about electronics and circuit boards, and rebuild cars as a hobby, plus hold an earned PhD in engineering, so I do stand a fairly good chance of making the correct repair if I have the needed information.

That will certainly be something to keep in mind the next time I buy a new drone.  I would be happy to sign a document saying that I am happy to decline any and all provisions of the warranty in exchange for the right to obtain a repair manual or a series of exploded diagrams.   I would note that in the US I am already legally liable for any damage or other criminal/civil matter arising from my negligent drone use, so any safety issue is solely mine and not DJI's or anyone else's.  You don't need to protect me from myself.

Aloha Mole,

There are many on this Forum that are in the same boat and many of us have gone ahead and rebuilt our birds.  But the P4 Pro V2 is very new and you have Mindy willing to help.

DJI holds 70% of the current commercial / hobbyist drone market.  They are also a Mainland Chinese company and highly competitive with their cutting edge technology.  DJI will not give up anything or any information unless they are legally required to do so by the US Government (which has happened with the US Army).  They are very reluctant to give away their secrets.

Just look at the current trade situation.  One of the biggest problems is China wants the US to give them their technology information but refuse to give up their technology information because China makes US products for the US and International markets.

DJI is one of the odd companies that is leading the US in an area of technology.  They will not give up that advantage.  You are not bucking a company, you are up against a Nation.

Indeed, a useful thought. Somehow I doubt it would happen though.

We understand your concern and respect your feeling that the repair manual and the exploded diagrams should be provided, but this is not possible as of the time being, please send in the drone to the official repair center or the recommended repair centers nearby for assistance: https://www.dji.com/service/repair/centers

That's some ridiculous BS corporate garbage using lame excuses and hiding behind words like "complex" and "Safety concerns" to cover up the real reason they wont release service manuals, which is because they want full control to maximize profits, like automobile manufacturers designing vehicle parts that require specialty tooling that can only be purchased from the dealerships at insane prices or components that are glued together at the factory instead of fastened with mechanical fasteners that allow for disassembly and reassembly, or designing components that purposely break down at 10k miles...it's so they can keep stealing your money. Is there really a safety concern in allowing consumers to service their own electronic hobby instruments? Really? Safety concerns lol. I have four phantom 4s right now in pieces and I'm going to repair them and give them back to the person that paid me to repair them. I wish I had a service manual. DJI sucks and can't be trusted
