So I was wondering what causes this. As you can see my bird (P4P) is coming home sideways. I have done an IMU cal. and compass cal. but she almost always comes home this way. Any ideas?

I suspect your imu calibration may have been done too close to a metal object.

How can metal objects effect imu calibration?

Aloha Hellsgate,

The compass is part of the sensor system involved with Inertial Measurement Units.  The inertia has to be measured against environmental factors and a compass is close to an ideal sensor for the measurement unit in a simple system like you would want in small aircraft.

     Hope this helps!

Metal (you really mean steel) has no effect on the IMU calibration.
None at all as there are no compasses or magnetic sensors involved.
You canrecalibrate your IMU on a steel surface without a problem.
All that matters is that it is level and still.

Hiya,

Can you upload your flightlog, using > https://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/

Mayby your camera is pointing not straight fwd, so it looks as the drone is drifting.

cheers

I have 3 different p2s that insist on pointing slightly to the right when on the way home from nnw to sse whether in rth or not.  Otherwise they fly perfect.  The one consistent thing is that all 3 are imu calibrated in the exact same spot near my desktop and ups.  Perhaps too near?  I need a longer USB cord.  Will advise.

IMU calibration is not affected at all by electromagnetic effects.

Aloha Edward,

     Could wind be a factor?

There was a 7-10 mph wind but it was a tail wind.
