CAMERA SETTINGS FOR LONG EXPOSURE AT NIGHT here my considerations on the dark (poor) light shooting
1 . LightHouse at night
Aperture: 2.8. - Shutter Speed : 8s - ISO: 100 - TYPE: FC2103 - MAVIC AIR
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing is find our composition ,
so , to get this I think is better to perform flight tests during the day light to establish flight routes and preview scenes and try to shoot some pictures to have a better idea.
At the same time it is very usefoul even to double check the area before fly in dark condicitions
(remember that when the GPS signal is weak and lighting conditions are too dark for the Forward and Downward Vision Systems, the aircraft will only use its barometer for positioning to control altitude)
then in the night , after finding our composition will be crucial getting the image in focus....
When fly in a dark condictions, you will notice that It’s hard to see through dark light and it is more difficult for the camera’s autofocus to work.
This will get easy to lead to an out of focus image.
Dealing with long exposures when the sun is rising or setting, we don’t have time for mistakes like that.
anyway , a good idea it is to switch from VIDEO into PICTURE mode before take off ,
when possible put your Drone camera already to a dark scene and set your camera setting to M – Manual mode, and choose
( in this way we can save battery time during the flight )
ISO should remain as low as possible and since you’re flying in a good weather condiction (slow wind )
that should be around 100
shutter speed between 00.02" and 00.08"
Shutter Speed is the amount of time the camera’s shutter is open and is measured in seconds or fractions of seconds.
image format : RAW ( useful in color correction )
RAW is the richest format of details, so it will be easier in the post production and color correction phase to adjust the shadow or overexposed areas
keep under control your histogram on the screen monitor
I keep histogram on the screen all time ...
the screen device on the remote control receive 1080 or 720 and for many reason is not so accurate like the picture saved on the memory stick (SD) on the drone ... but at the same time , histogram give us a good idea about real exposure , light factor throuth the camera lens .
Histogram could be one of our real friend
2 . marina in the night
Aperture: 2.8. - Shutter Speed : 7s - ISO: 100 - TYPE: FC2103 - MAVIC AIR
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
during the dark light shooting it is a good idea to turn off the lights on Front LEDs and Aircraft Status Indicators
this could already be selected automatically in the menu or before flying set your RC key C1 or C2 to switch off /on the front led
in this way , you can easy see your aircraft in the dark light and switch off the light just when you are shooting to avoid any problem with the red color of his light
3 . top down city
Aperture: 5. - Shutter Speed : 1/120 - ISO: 100 - TYPE: fC6310 - PHANTOM 4 PRO
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have always loved photographs
look down is one of the aerial shooting modes that I like
this can certainly be used even with longer exposure times and in low light conditions ...
Switch to Manual Focus and set INFINITE
Tap to select object for focusing or metering and then Tap to lock the exposure value
If you’re not comfortable using Manual Focus yet you can focus with Automatic Focus too, just remember to switch back to Manual before you take an image.
If you forget to change and the camera is still operating in Automatic Focus when you begin taking the pictures you will quickly see that the camera can have some difficult to focus since all it can see is very dark .Therefore it’s essential to have it in Manual Mode as soon as you start photographing.
However, everything depends on the image you’re taking and what you wish to capture.
4 . Doha cars leave light trails long exposure mode
Aperture: 1.8. - Shutter Speed : 8s - ISO: 100 - tYPE: fC2103 - MAVIC AIR
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we mentioned in our Introduction to Shutter Speed, the Shutter Speed is the amount of time the camera’s shutter is open and is measured in seconds or fractions of seconds. A larger denominator such as 1/1000 is a quicker shutter speed than a lower denominator such as 1/10 allowing less light to reach the sensor.
This means that the camera registers anything that moves while your shutter is open. That’s why the water looks like silk and cars leave light trails in certain images.
DON'T FORGET
USUALLY, THE NIGHT IS FORBIDDEN TO FLY TO A DRONE ...
this is why it is better to use the hours before and immediately after sunset and sunrise
(golden hours)
you will have a few minutes useful and in compliance with the law
5 . LIGHT HOUSE PANORAMA MODE long exposure ❤️
Aperture: 11. - Shutter Speed : 2s - ISO: 100 - TYPE: fC6310 - PHANTOM 4 PRO
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This photograph was taken in panorama mode, 2 "shutter speed, ISO 100
The panorama mode allows you to take very well detailed photographs with wide perspectives,
using low shutter speeds the challenge is to avoid the small vibrations that then , during the construction of the photo (photo union adobe lightroom) can give difficulties
Another point with panorama mode is thinking, as always , is the photographic composition
Obviously it could be adjusted by cutting, but you would lose the panorama effect, so in my opinion, it's better to take more panoramas shot with different positions of the drone and his camera, change the initial framing, and then check after 21 shots which will be the final composition.
I hope you like it and will be usefoul for you
the best TIP still the same ...
try and try again , keep hard your passion to learn and improve , test something new , and back to try again...
