It's Memphis. So being named after a place in Egypt, why not have a Pyramid.

It was originally owned by the city and county and was a sports arena. The county sold their half to the city several years ago then the city sold it to Bass Pro.

You are 100% correct. The City of Memphis and Shelby County built it in 1991 and modeled it after the Pyramids the city was named after. Originally there was suppose to be three of them but this was the only one to actually be built.
