Once Osmo Pocket is in your hands, you will be eager to take it everywhere you go and record life’s moments. If you want to make the most of this convenient device and capture stunning videos and photos, it is best to familiarize yourself with the following shooting parameters first.
“Why is my footage not clear?”
Resolution
The default resolution of Osmo Pocket is 1920×1080 (commonly known as 1080p), which is great for direct editing on mobile phones and instant sharing.
If you want to record detailed footage or require post-processing with professional video editing software, it would be best to shoot in 4K, namely, 3840×2160, at Super Fine Quality, to leave more space for post editing. However, it should be noted that videos with a higher resolution will take up more storage space.
“Why is the motion in my video blurry?”
Frame Rate
Frame rate refers to the frequency at which consecutive images (frames) appear in one second. The more frames that are recorded in one second, the smoother the video will become. The frame rate for the films that we usually watch are generally 24fps, commonly known as Cinematic Look.
30fps can grant a more authentic and immersive visual experience. The default video setting on an iPhone is 30fps, which is suitable for shooting daily videos.
If you expect to present more motion details in your videos, you can try slow motion at 60fps. In this way, image quality will not be influenced, and the footage will be smooth and clear after you edit the videos with post-processing software.
“Why are my videos always overexposed or not bright enough?”
Osmo Pocket’s Advanced mode offers easier control of exposure, granting increased flexibility for creativity.
Adjust the ISO and Shutter speed in M mode and the exposure value will also be adjusted correspondingly to ensure normal exposure of your footage.
ISO
ISO is the camera sensor’s sensitivity to light. At the same shutter speed, the higher the ISO, the brighter your footage will be.
Under bright sunlight during the day, ISO 100 is a great choice. If you set the ISO too high, there will be more noise in your footage, and image quality will be reduced. In particular, there will be more noise in the dark areas of your footage.
Conversely, at night you should set a higher ISO to get more exposure. You need to set the right ISO to ensure the image quality. This requires a balance between exposure and image quality.
SHUTTER
The shutter speed is used to control the exposure time. Osmo Pocket’s shutter speed is usually set at a speed that is double the frame rate.
For example, the recommended shutter speed for common videos at 30fps is 1/60s. With this speed, the footage can be a little unclear, but it is more accurate to how we visually perceive movements in our daily life. It conforms to the visual experience of the naked eye and appears more natural.
“How do I give my video more style?”
WB
In Advanced settings, White Balance (WB) is one of the most frequently adjusted parameters.
The WB value determines the color tone of your video, conveying different artistic conceptions. Usually, the basic value for Osmo Pocket is set at WB 6000. If you prefer a warmer color tone, you can increase the WB value. Otherwise, lower the WB value for a cooler look.
