The UK's CAA has just released their proposed charges for the mandatory registration of your drone from November 2019.
£16.50 . Renewable every year.
Not impressed. They want a high take up? Why not offer a free registration controlled and maintained via the apps? Either way, it's way more than other countries: USA is $5 for 3 years; France is free; Ireland is €5 for 2 years. Yet somehow the CAA think this is the very cheapest they can offer it for....
Thanks for the info.
I have submitted my response.
I think the proposed charge is taking the biscuit (edited for the forum) and at that rate will ensure a very low uptake.
Will be interested to see what the BFMA and FPV have to say on the matter as it covers all model aircraft over 250g
And we all know that the "risk takers" will not register anyway, so the whole thing is pointless....
Its a self serving money making operation. I think the 170,000 is an massive over estimate - I reckon at most 30,000 to just pull a figure out of the air! So either they will have to raise the charge accordingly and/or cut down the office/department running the registration operation. As I for one cannot see any justification to be charging nearer £100 per year if my figure is nearer reality. (Note too the line of self justifying the reg charge in the UK CAA Drone Reg. Charge Doc. Chapter 3, 3.2 c) !!
Great stuff. It's all the more annoying as they say they've been given the money to start it up and just need to cover their ongoing costs.... 170,000 x £16 = £2.7m. each year.....
£16.50 per year, outrageous.
OK Lets say £20 one off fee to take the test, which should be in the Vendors App or Online to allow HMG to give us certificates and a registration code for your drone.
Free online confirmation (required) to maintain your license, failure to confirm each year voids the license.
