Well done. Have seen quite a few people asking if it is possible to launch the Spark from a balcony. Your first video is a very good demonstration of that.

I use the same technique as well, but always be carefull.... I wasn't paying enough attention last week and grapped the Spark a bit to high. Those little propellers are quiet sharp :S

Nice videos - the gestures method is my favourite method.

I am comfortable hand launching/retrieving my Spark but now that I also have an MP, I use a landing pad for both. If I become brave/unwise enough to hand launch/retrieve the MP, I will do away with the landing pad. I don't think that will happen any time soon.

lucky me! i was way too careful when doing both (launch and land) so those blades haven't hit me yet since i had my Spark for over a year

I used gesture prior to mastering this kind of hand launch and land.  
Now, I don't use gesture anymore, i always place my hand under spark, wait for a few seconds for bottom sensor to detect my palm, then hold the left stick down until the motor stops
