Issue: Camera focus malfunction
Hi All,
My Mavic Pro has been completely operational for 18 months. No major crashes (or even minor crashes for that matter).
Recently I noticed that the horizon was not completely straight, so I completed a standard gimbal calibration through the DJI GO 4 app on my iphone. The calibration completed 100% and appeared successful. I shutdown the drone.
A few days later, I attempted to fly the drone at an outdoor location with good afternoon lighting. Immediately upon starting the drone and turning on DJI GO 4 app, I noticed that the camera was not focussing in auto-focus or manual. I attempted to reset camera settings while outdoors but this did not fix the issue. I turned focus to manual. I could see that the lens was not mechanically moving with the manual focus adjustment through the GO 4 iphone display. No focus adjustments whatsoever! [size=14.6667px]Frustrated, I shutdown the drone to look at it later when I got home
Looking at it later, I identified that once the drone is on, the lens is "frozen" at the position of shortest focal range. Focus is 5cm (2 inches) from the camera. The lens cannot be adjusted using either Auto-focus or manual-focus, therefore all photos and videos are blurry.
I then noticed that during drone shutdown and startup, the lens actually goes through a "self-calibration" and does move forwards and backwards before becoming "frozen" once more.
Video below of drone starting up. The lens can be seen moving during startup sequence (at about 7 second mark of video); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ESqJ40KgI&feature=youtu.be
Anyway, I have completed the following troubleshooting steps;
- Completed firmware upgrades
- Completed IMU calibration
- Completed second gimbal calibration
- Completed camera reset settings through GO 4 app
- Completed “restore factory defaults” through DJI Assistant
- Uninstalled and re-installed GO 4 app.
Nothing has worked. DJI have advised that the next step is sending it into the DJI repair facility. DJI also advised that I would be liable for the $60 per hour service fee plus any cost of parts. Thanks a lot.
THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON MALFUNCTION. See other examples at these links;

This is so disappointing and it is not reasonable to expect that a $2000 item of camera equipment will suffer major failure after 18 months.
Has anyone else had this issue resolved??? Did you have to send your drone away? What was the repair outcome?
Thanks in advance.
Nathan
