Hi everyone,

I am going to tour mont blanc next month, which will cross France, Swiss and Italy. And I am so confused about whether I am able to fly my drone over there. For swiss and Itlay seems fine because their drone rules are very straightforward. However, for France, they have a separate website provide the map where can and can not fly.

Does anyone here have some relevant experience of flying drone for TMB? Very appreciate if anyone can give me some idea.
Thank you xx!!

Best wishes

Hello and good day JamesZy2019. Thank you for reaching out and for the inquiry. I hope you'll get the best information and recommendations here from our valued DJI Members and Customers who had traveled in France, Swiss and Italy. Please read through your airline's battery transportation regulations when traveling with LiPo batteries.  In addition I will be posting a link where in you can check some information on how to travel with your drone ( https://www.dji.com/flyingtips?site=brandsite&from=nav ). Finally I will be posting a link where in you can check locations inFrance, Swiss and Italy ( https://www.dji.com/flysafe/geo-map ) where in you can fly your drone freely and if the said locations is a no fly zone ( NFZ ). Thank you and stay safe always.

For flying drone in France, you can check the authorized zones here https://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/d ... ur-drones-de-loisir . Furthermore, for drone heavier than 800 grams like the Mavic products, you have to register your drone https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/R52123 and succeed to a test https://fox-alphatango.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/ to be in good standing.
I checked for you, but unfortunately the Mont Blanc area is a no fly zone in the french border side.

Hi Fre Mo,

Thanks for your reply and information. I have registered and took the online test for the first website. I also checked that map before as well, so it means in some villages such as Chamonix, les houches etc, I am not allowed to take off right?
But can i take off for example, on my way from chamonix to les houches, is that possible for me to take off and take some pics or I am not allowed to do that? (Mine is mavic 2 and obviously its more than 800 grams)
Also, Mont Blanc is a no fly zone only in France area or also include Swiss and Italy?

Many thanks,

James

Indeed, you are not allowed to fly over villages and towns, but maybe in the neighborhood, check if the area is not red on the previous map.
To fly in Switzerland or Italy you have to check the rules of these countries...

MBT is between 7 and 11 days walking. What about your batteries?

Bring charger and there should be someplace to charge my battery in the refuges.

I too intend taking a Mavic Air on the TMB

I'm only taking 2 batteries, in fact I might only take 1, and just get the odd "boomerang" shot now and then on the cols.

Rules or not, I've no desire to fill the valleys with a noisy drone, so up, spin and down is all I'll be doing. I'm actually trying to book tonight, aiming to go in late August...

Resurrecting this old thread to find out how this went for @JamesZy2019 or @fans4287815f ? I'm hiking the Tour this summer and am debating whether or not to bring the drone. It looks like the laws in France are tough but Switzerland and Italy don't seem bad. Any friction or annoyance from locals or other hikers while you flew/filmed?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have checked the official DJI Flysafe GEO zones and the TMB trail route and according to the information in the internet you can fly a drone (at least Mavic Air 2S, which I have) on most parts on the trail. I have made this picture. It is based on the GEO Flyzones on DJI website https://fly-safe.dji.com/nfz/nfz-query?zone=%5Bobject%20Object%5D&device=%5Bobject%20Object%5D and Alltrails TMB route. Of course, I haven't made a perfect route because this map is not suitable for drawing the trail but you can check it yourself by comparing the fly zones and the official trail on other maps. I hope this helps.
