Andy Sage head of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle section of the UK National Air Traffic Control organisation called all drone pilots, clueless, careless or criminal while giving advise to a government committee on the future legislation of drones in the UK. While it brought laughter from some in the commission, NATS realised the enormous backlash that was going to come on the back of such comments and forced ( we think ) Andy Sage into writing an apology to all UK drone pilots on the NATS website.

PFCO licensed pilots will be particularly aggrieved at this comments as will be most hobby fliers. The response to his apology on the NATS website has been almost universal condemnation of his comments, and indeed his suitability to head such a body as the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle division if he is willing to make such comments. The fact that he borrowed the words from a speech given by the FAA in the USA who at the time were talking about drone pilots that ignore current laws, seems not to have made any difference to the storm of protests from UK drone pilots.

I believe he made the comment in the context of people who fly drones illegally rather than in a generalised attack on all remote pilots but foolishly didn't emphasise that vital part. I'm guessing PR is not his forte! He is clearly not fit for role and needs to resign.

Unfortunately, there are more people like that, which are spearheading the regulations for sUAS operations and pilots.  Many pilot organizations rally behind an 'anti-drone' campaign as well.  We have seen the likes of false reports and scare tactics used in past official reports, in order to drum up heavy resilience against this new drone industry.  What's more unfortunate, is that this path is more and more clearly paving the way for only government and corporate entities to capitalize on the new drone industry, while the hobbyists and individual professional pilots are left by the wayside, drowning under regulations.  This guy Andy Sage seems to be one of the types to capitalize or straight up profit from deregulating UAS activity for corporations.

Gisele are you talking about the legal distance you can fly? Or the distance your drone should fly if you disregard drone codes?

Gisele if you are talking about Lebanon have a look here

Seems like they have no, you must never fly beyond visual line of sight, or , you must not fly above 400 feet. So the laws for drones in Lebanon are fairly light compared to most countries.
