My friend crashed his new Mavic 2 zoon the day before yesterday. At the day about 7.30pm, he called me: Dr. Cool, come over and help me, my drone disappeared. I want the site and helped to analysis the flight log, and found the crash was very strange:
The weather was great: sunny and no wind (we used to fly there for long time, and familiar with the environment). 2500m away right side is NFZ.
GPS signal was good (11-14), we use Samrt controller.
After 9:27, the distance was 836m at 31m altitude. Battery was 48%. At that time point, the IMU showed abnormal, he tried to return homepoint (Figure 1)
A second late, the drone reduced altitude for 1m (30m), and started to zigzag (Figure 2 and 3).
At 9:32, the distance was 787m the altitude further reduced to 18m, and image transmission stopped, and drone crashed into water at the middle of the river (Figure 3)
The final point showed the point of the drone disappeared: 39.443800, -76.276048
I guess the crash was caused by bald eagle attack:
1. There are several bald eagle nests at both side of the river. The eagles are local residencies. The juvenile eagle used to attack any invaders. We always see both bald eagle and osprey over there. But osprey does not likely to attack other things.
2. The flight log shows that there are 49m zigzag toward the homepoint. The only explain is the eagle caught.
3. IMU abnormal originated from the catching of drone. Maybe the eagle caught the drone from the back.
We have no boat to get the drone back.
Any other possibilities or explanations?
