Motors:
  
There are various motors available on the market. The motor models and parameter meanings of each model are illustrated below.
  
For example, in the ordinary 2207 motors, “22” means that the motor stator’s OD is 22mm, and “07” means that the stator height is 7mm. The value of kV means the number of revolutions per minute increased one voltage is applied. For instance, in a 2,500kV motor, the rotational speed will increase by 2,500 revolutions/minute when one voltage is applied.

The brands of mainstream racing drone motors include: 1. T-motor, 2. dys, 3. Yinyan and others.
  
ESC:
  
ESC parameters are simpler, starting from the product form.

These two types of ESCs have been developed for a long time, and are not prone to damage as the earlier 4-in-1 ESCs. It should be noted that if individual ESCs are used, you can replace the damaged one in the event of crash. However, if a 4-in-1 ESC is used, you have to replace the entire ESC, thus increasing the maintenance cost. The 4-in-1 ESC is lighter and its wiring is simple.
Most ESCs on the market support 3-6s batteries. Some ESC’s current is as high as 60A, 55A, 40A, much higher than the current parameters required by the previous large Quadcopter drone. It can be seen that behind this small board are the wisdom and efforts of so many people!

Propeller:
Next, let’s turn to propeller parameters. For example, in the earlier 5045 propeller, the parameter implies that the propeller diameter is 5 inch, and the pitch is 4.5 inch. Pitch refers to the distance the propeller would move upward in one revolution.
Personally, I prefer Gemfan and Yinyan propellers. If you just start practicing, it is recommended to choose some affordable propellers as the FPV drone is prone to crash.

Next, let’s see how to choose and match propulsion system.
The first parameter is frame’s wheelbase. Based on usage, racing drones can be divided into three types: indoor racing drones, competition racing FPV drones, and common racing drones. They cover different wheelbases: 130-180 for indoor racing drones, 180-220 for competition racing drones, and 240-280 for common racing drones.
Based on the frame size, you can determine the maximum propeller. In general, the indoor racing drone propeller is 2-3 inch, covering tri-blade or quad-blade. The competition racing drone mainly adopts 4-5-inch propellers. For better efficacy, use a propeller larger than 5-inch. Common racing drone supports 4-6-inch propellers.
After the purpose is determined, you can select the motor. In general, professional brands will provide a test report, including tension, voltage, current, rotation speed and efficiency under different propellers and throttle ranges.
Thrust-to-weight ratio is an important parameter, it means the ratio between thrust and weight. Here we will consider the maximum throttle thrust-weight ratio.

Taking the T-MOTOR’s Hom2207 motor as an example. When the GF5149 propeller is used, the maximum thrust is 2,080g, and the total thrust of four motors is 8,320g. The estimated drone weight is about 600g, so the thrust-to-weight ratio is 13.8.

For novice users, it is recommended to control the throttle thrust-to-weight ratio within 4-6. If it is used for racing or freestyle drones, then the ratio should be 8 or higher. Of course, it doesn't mean that the higher the thrust-to-weight ratio, the better. The thrust-to-weight ratio mainly depends on usage applications and personal habits. If the thrust-to-weight ratio is increased, please use a firm frame.
T-motor and Yinyan entry-level motors with thrust-to-weight ratio of about 4.8 are recommended for novice users. The price is relatively cheap, and you can afford another one in the event of crash. Choose an advanced motor after your skills are improved.

The propeller is based on the motor model selected. The test report will list recommended propellers. Select one based on your budget.
