Hi all -

It was recommended that I post about this here in the hopes it might get some traction and attention.

For a full run-down and detail of the history - feel free to read the original thread here: https://mavicpilots.com/threads/mavic-air-took-off-by-itself-ascended-to-400m-and-then-crashed-no-input.70127/

The TLDR version is I got my Mavic Air at the end of July - charged up the battery, updated all the software and firmware.  Took it outside and the app insisted I go into Simulator mode, so I obliged. After running Simulator mode for a short while - and while still actively in that mode - the props of the aircraft powered up and the aircraft launched high into the sky. Ascended on its on, with no user inputs, with the exception of pressing the RTH button - which didn't work. The aircraft then travelled about 100 metres and then crashed.

Clearly a concerning issue and worry - considering I was in Simulator mode and it actually took off. At this point my on-going interactions with DJI support have been incredibly lackluster and they flat out refuse to acknowledge the clear evidence that has been presented - which all can be found in the above reference thread. But, I'll provide the key details here - unfortunately the constraints of this forum won't allow the .DAT files to be posted nor the image from the flight itself. See the other thread for those details.

Clearly the KML data is extraordinary - and the EXIF data from the photo clearly logs the GPS coordinates near China - where I was in Brisbane, Australia.

I'd be grateful for any thoughts and insights here. I just simply want a replacement of the drone that took off by itself before I was ever able to even use the aircraft.

Happy to provide any clarification or additional details along the way too.

Simulate runs in windows10.
I am confused about your runaway drone.
I used simulator cabled only into rc.
The drone was deenergized.
Simulator responded correctly to the cabled rc into windows10.
The windows screen correctly responds to rc command.
I am totally confused how you were capable to connect the rc by cable into windows10 simultaneously with enhanced wifi connect from rc into drone energized.

Hi Curtis -

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking.

I have the DJI Go 4 app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I attached the phone to the controllers and then it prompted me to enter simulator mode as this was the first time flying this aircraft. So I did and then everything mentioned above and in the other thread occurred. I never used Windows 10 - nor does my phone have that capability.

That's why I am insistent that there is a clear software glitch on this one - the GPS makes that clear, anyways. As I was in Brisbane, Australia and the flight has me off the coast China after 13 seconds.

Check out the airdata - surely this is a world record flight that I should be awarded for? Or, more likely, there's an error in this aircrafts system.

Hey JJB -

I've done this on the other thread and the results came up empty from the log file - but just uploaded here anyways so you can see the results:

You can get the log and .DAT file from the other thread, if that helps. I can't seem to upload any content to these posts without it vanishing, for some reason. Here's the link to the .DAT file: https://mavicpilots.com/attachments/19-07-25-05-06-57_fly022-dat.78308/
Hope that can give you something to work with.

Update:

I have been able to come to a resolution with DJI and a replacement is being sent in the coming days - of which I am incredibly grateful.

We still did not come to a wider conclusion on the situation and there are still plenty of questions as to why this occurred. While this matter is closed, I am still curious as to why this happened and hope DJI continue to look into it.
