"There has been a bridge here since Roman times and perhaps earlier. This bridge was built between 1602 and 1613. The high point in the middle was once the boundary between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Greece."

"Folklore tells that the bridge would collapse every night and that a bird told the head builder that he needed to sacrifice his wife for it to remain standing."
