Do you have more information about the lake?

Lake Kournas is the only freshwater lake in Crete island!! Is relatively large, with a perimeter of 3.5 km and the width, at the point where the landing stage is built, is about 800 m!! Lake Kournas is located near the village of Kournas, Kournas is a fairly large village perched on a hill overlooking the lake.  
The lake used to be called Koresia after ancient Korion, a city thought to be in the area with a temple to Athena. The lake reportedly used to be full of eels but now is better known for its terrapins and tourism. There is a nature preserve on the Southwest of the lake. Lake Kournas and its environs are protected under Natura 2000, an important wetland, is home to ducks, water snakes and a rare species of bicoloured terrapin with a patterned shell, the Diamondback Terrapin. Herons and cormorants also sometimes appear on the lake!!
If you stand, barefoot, in the water on the sandy beach, tiny fish will (painlessly) nibble dead skin from your feet for free!!
