After the thanks fest, this is just a new camera and sensors bolted to a Phantom RTH.
Great for specialised agriculture use but nothing useful for 99.99% of the drone flying population.
DJI hasn't done anything significant to improve on the P4pro for Phantom users since the (now discontinued) P4pro came out nearly three years ago.

Well thats one way to use up all the bits and bobs still on the shelves after P4 discontinued. Then bolt on a new camera ...

As I suspected - the Hobby Market is secondary to the industrial / commercial market.  With the increasing limitations on recreational flying, commercial side is the way.

Sales of these specialised models will be a tiny fraction of sales of recreational and general use use drones.
The general drone market is DJI's primary market.

Given that DJI are a leader in Steadycam / Dronecam gear for Movie Companys and industrial - I think we will differ on this. Their tech goes far wider than just a camera on a multi-rotor. Hobby Drones may be a profitable line - but I am sure its not the primary income.

The sale of one professional unit for Industry / Movie company far outweighs a boxful of hobby drones.

DJI doesn't sell a few boxfulls of general purpose drones.
They have sold a few millions of them.
A couple of thousand specialised commercial drones vs a couple of million general purpose/recreational drones??
I wonder how that arithmetic works out?

I don't disagree about numbers .... but you as well as I do not have access to DJI accounts or records ... so either of us could be right.

But it is fact that DJI have a serious industrial side that like many other industry's benefits the man in the street's units.

Racing tech from cars - to street cars ...
Military developed Flight tech to airliners ...

DJI Industrial to Hobby units.

Actually this is a case of technology from a drone developed by DJI for the man-in-the-street being applied to benefit industrial users.
DJI have just bolted a different camera to their 3-year old Phantom 4 pro, a consumer drone that has probably sold a million or more for general users.

DJI probably has a lot less headaches and better profit margin dealing with the industrial market.

DJI Industrial to Hobby units.

That would be initial thought when looking at it ... P4 body ... most likely near all internal flight stuff is P4 with the new bolted on ... agreed.

But where did the P4 and its earlier cousins get their development from ...

Its fine to try argue its just a P4 with a different camera bolted on .... but that ignores all the years of development that were then passed to the Hobby grade gear to create the P4 and its earlier cousins.

Its similar in so many fields ... Professional / Industrial gear developed  ... with various then transferring to 'gear for us' .... trouble is after a while - that gets forgotten.

But back to my original 'remark' .... good way to use up all those bits and bobs still on the shelf from discontinued lines ... add a few sparkles and tricks and its a 'new model'. Car manufacturers have been doing it for decades ... 'adding sparkle' to a soon to be end of line model ... even using up gear in the replacement first version - then redesigning that ... to pep up sales.

You're making a big assumption there.
What makes you think that DJI's development of the Phantom line since 2013 was drawing on industrial drone technology and not the other way around?
Where do you think all the money comes from for the R&D for all of DJI's products?

OK ... show me some of DJI's industrial drones that you think paved the way for the Phantom.

I don't know why you'd think the Phantoms weren't the foundation that paved the way for everything else.
It seems obvious if you've been aboard for a few years.

I don't know why you'd think the Phantoms weren't the foundation that paved the way for everything else.

You are persisting as always in a fundamental misunderstanding ...

You and I are not privy to the inside stories of DJI ... but your inability to even accept any possibility other than your own view colours this disagreement.

If you go back to the original I posted ... I suggested that use of off the shelf remaining P4 gear was likely ... many manufacturers do this ...
I also SUGGESTED that DJI's industrial / Professional market could be the development ground for all else they do. You took it upon yourself to disagree, as usual with the : Solentlife's talking rubbish attitude ....

Regardless of your twisted understanding of what I post - I make the suggestion that it is possible that industrial development could very well be the foundation. Such gear sells and profits to high degreee, unlike hobby gear - which needs high volume sales.

But as usual - your PoV must take precedent ....

That's because much of the time you do speak a load of rubbish.
Now come on and find all these industrial drones that you are convinced DJI developed the technology we use in our consumer Phantoms.
You won't be able to because there are none.
DJI started in the hobby sector and it was the technology developed in Phantoms that they went on to use in the industrial drones that they developed later.

I make the suggestion that it is possible that industrial development could very well be the foundation. Such gear sells and profits to high degree, unlike hobby gear - which needs high volume sales.

Usually the foundation comes first.

So you haven't been able to dredge up anything to support your nonsensical argument?
What a surprise.
You'd do a lot better if you thought about things and only stuck your neck out when you had facts on your side.
