Hi all
After flying fthe Air for over 18 months, and for those just getting their first drone in the form of a Mavic Air, I made a fairly in-depth tutorial in two halves:  first half has all the setup and basic functions; second half is for more intermediate pilots who may see some useful ideas and tips.
Bit of a long one, but there was a lot to get through....

Cheers
Ian

Very good and informative video, thanks for sharing.
I don't really need any of these tips but it's gonna be definitely very helpful for new users and that's what matters.

I think regardless of drone model, the points from 13:20 are applicable to everyone......
Cheers for the good words!

loved my mavic air but hated few things enough that i dont think im willing to recommend upgrading without DJI addressing, i mean i sold my mavic air. and without these fixes below i wouldnt reccomend it for its current new price.

things i feel DJI needs to address:

1. Wifi Link.  while i fully accept wifi in of itself is inferior to Occusync and lightbridge, the Wifi link that mavic air uses could be better if it supported dual band splitting, channel hopping and for growth, all of which  are supported functions under 802.11 wifi standards.  the sudden lag is a killer i had a crash i needed to repair the arm on my mavic air because sudden lag flying around in a neighborhood at street level.   i know this can be fixed with better wifi logic.

2. Low noise props and optimized propulsion system update for better props, Please dji..  mavic air sounds like screaming swarm of bees i know cant completely solve the issue but i think mavic air deserves a optimization update to better utilize the stealth props from master airscrew at very least.

3. add a camera down/level button shortcut option.  like that's just software, sometimes nice specially if having to land to be able to click a button and snap camera down.  this is very esy thing to add, not sure why not there.

4. fix the "color eater" bug in the image signal processing pipeline.. prob a simple solution would be to bake in some lookup tables into pipeline to boost missing colors..

5. increase Mavic air's capability in activetrack.. mine was stuck at 12-14 MPH this limits its usefulness.  maybe add a toggle for "safe" which will use all sensors and be slower.  "fast" which disables al sensors not needed at risk of crashing for higher speed tracking.    this is lower priority but it was still annoying for me even on a bike because esacaping 12-14 MPH wasnt too hard.

6. fix other oddiest like yaw glitches and controller stick drift (also an issue on some mavic 2's btw).

So do you still recommend the Mavic Air at the end of 2019? I'm close to buy my first drone.

Now it boils down to the Mavic 2 Pro, or probably the Mavic Mini!  Let's see what the week unfolds....

here's my issue.. mavic air in the US costs $919 directly from DJI brand new for the base model and $1149 for fly more.   at these prices i would actually tell people to steer well clear of the mavic air line and get a used mavic pro instead.

at even $799 for fly more i cannot recommend it, not only because of its shortcomings but also because its going on 2 years old here soon enough.

I'm currently studying in order to obtain an official pilote license, so the new Mavic Mini has no point for me. And the Mavic 2 Pro it's not really portable to add in my bag with my mirrorless equipment.
And the Mavic Air costs the half.
It's a difficult decision...

The Mavic Mini is still a drone and can be registered just like any other drone. It's simply not required to be registered as a recreational flyer in the USA or UK. But if you do, it's as valid as any other drone.
