I guess Active Track will never be implemented on the Mavic Mini because it lacks the Sensors for Obstacle Avoidance. This would result in a lot of crashes and i doubt dji is gonna risk their "safe flying" image just for that. Also they would kind of take away the USP of their larger drones especially the mavic air (which is not even 2 years old and therefore hardly reached its end of life cylcle). I do see a possibility for a improvement of the Steady Shot feature that has kind of active tracking (with limitations) though - at least from an hardware point of view.
We have quickshots which are similar maneuvers as active track and it is doing it WITHOUT obstacle avoidance sensors. That doesn't preclude the possibility of adding active track. It would just mean you have to use active track carefully and know your surroundings to avoid objects. At anytime during the current quickshots you can take control of the mini and cancel the quickshot. I would assume the feature would remain the same with active track.
Yes it would take a little away from the other drones, but so far this little drone already has. It is lighter, better batter,y 3 axis gimble and a great capability, which is why beginners and pros alike are interested in this mini. Weight, size, and portability says a LOT to the flying community. Adding Active Track would push it over the edge where hundreds, thousands more people would buy it.
Activetrack and manual camera settings (WB, shutter speed, and ISO) are the number #1 requested additions for the Mavic Mini |
