I've had the mini for about a week and have taken it out for a few short (30 min flights) on 3 occasions so far, with no connection loss or reboots (knock on wood). I have a Galaxy s8 unlocked running with Android 9.

For those rebooting issues, have you tried reinstalling the app? And also try wiping cache partition. It will sometimes fix problems without having to factory reset (search Google for Galaxy s8 wipe cache partition)

Just to clear things a up a bit: when the app crashes the RC is still full in control of the aircraft which can be flown by eyesight or commanded to RTH (proving it was appropriately configured), or wait of course for the Fly app reboot.

In fact, I'm getting pretty angry on DJI.
For several weeks I have been dealing with the problem with a spontaneous reboot of the phone.

I found the following:
The phone restarts with a 80% probability after signal loss. However, signal loss is not a trigger. The phone restarts AFTER CONNECTION IS REESTABLISHED ! It doesn't even need to be in the air or engines running.

It is easy to verify: place MM to the basement and move 1-2 floors away, or place it on (for example) a table, and go far enough. When you lose the signal, move back to MM. As soon as the connection is established, the phone restarts.

Device Information:
------------------------------
Mavic Mini with latest firmware, DJI Fly application version: 1.0.8

Phone - Samsung Galaxy S6 after factory reset. Only installed DJI Fly, nothing else.
The phone has been tested by Samsung Service Center, replaced with a brand new battery.

EDIT::
New tested:: LineageOS 17.1 Android 10 on Samsung S6, but with the same result

good find! though not sure it is always on reconnect, i think i had some without reboot. It is kind of difficult to find a pattern though...
and yep it is really annoying...sometimes it reboots every time, sometimes it doesn't. I am also tired of this, usually takes a couple of min to relaunch the app and drone RTH, so basically i miss a lot of shots, not to mention couple of times with wind i was afraid it might not come back as i couldn't switch to sport mode and had to rely on RTH speeds...
given the rate of new app updates i really doubt they will fix it any time soon. And especially as it is samsung specific and other phones don't have that issue...there are other major bugs also in the app, but this one is the most annoying hands down.

Good. Anyway.. My samsung galaxy note 8 always restarts whenever there is a disconnect. Happened multiple times since the first flight and am pretty scared. Mine is an Exynos version.

i tried on s6 edge, reboots, yours might not be exynos, that is the common denominator

yep mine is the same, sometimes if i am luck i can squeeze a flight without reboots. but very rare...i have tried with another phone-s6 edge, also with exynos, only the 1st flight didn't reboot, it seems certain distance is involved also but i cannot put my finger on what are the triggering factors

you don't have issues because your s8 has snapdragon chipset, issue is with exynos chipset. the app is the issue, DJI developed it but did not test it properly, so probably there is a bug in the code that causes a crash of the android on this type of chipsets...

OK, thank you for clarifying it. I knew about the Exynos chipset issue as a probable cause, but did not know about the Exynos-DJI connection...

The investigation continues::

Because the trigger is a reconnection of the device after a signal failure. I was able to temporarily resolve this issue.
The solution is a bit clumsy, but it prevents the mobile phone from restarting.

- after loss of signal (LED on RC starts flashing) I press page back (red circle see picture)
- after signal recovery everything works normally

In addition, even if I press page back, all available telemetry data is correctly logged on the mobile phone. (..FlightRecord / MCDataFlightRecords / *. Dat and ..FlightRecord / DJIFlightRecords * .txt)

Using this procedure, my cell phone did not restart even once. It is a temporary solution.
I expect an early solution from DJI ..

i just tested it...one flight it worked, another not...in ideal conditions when you have time to react is ok, when it looses connection and reconnects almost immediately you are screwed...so basically while a valid workaround, not 100% success rate unfortunately.

not sure if DJI will fix the app soon though....it seems this is not a big issue for them.

Yes. That's true. My tests were made in the Ideal situation you mentioned.

I hope that with the release of the Air 2... The app will be fixed.

Anyway I claimed for a refund.

Yes, I agree with you. Claim is the last choice. I hope that DJI will take the lead and resolve the issue as soon as possible. So far, I have suspended all possible purchases of new DJI drones (eg Mavic 2 Air).

Where is DJI guys in this thread. Seems to be ignoring this issue altogether. Now for flying mini do we have to buy a separate cell phone altogether.

Hi, did anyone find a fix for your phone restarting. I can see these comments go a fare few months back but ive had my drone over a month and when I loose signal im still getting the same issue were my phone completely restarts. Its so anoying because if your up high enough that you might loose sight of your drone and then you loose signal, on top of that your phone restarts so you cant see anything at all, it does bring a little sweat on. I do love the dji mini, and loosing signal is pretty easy, built up area or not but this just seems so ridiculous this even happens

well no, there is no resolution to poor coding unfortunately. the only workaround is to use the arrow on the upper left side to go back at the initial screen of the dji fly app, as suggested by another user on this thread. Then wait for the RC to regain connection, lights stop blinking. Either way it should automatically switch back to camera view screen. Only problem is sometimes you have to be fast, as it might regain connectivity almost immediately after losing it, and it appears that on regaining app crashes. will have to pray dji fixes this anytime this year... but i doubt that - they will be more concerned bringing new features or fixing bugs for the mavic air 2.

They accepted my refund request because of this bug without asking more information or giving me an explanation or development status.. They are probably aware of the issue but their poor coding team Is not able to carry out a fix.

Try to select a wifi channel manually from the 2,4ghz range before takeoff. It seems the issue is related to the auto channel selection process during the signal regain period. It also has additional benefit in the eu version, because  the user is able to choose a 2,4g channel directly. The 5.8g ( mostly set in automatic mode)is terribly poor in eu region.  The mini transmission system is unable to swich a channel during the flight. If the signal regain after a disconnect event, the system rechoose the channel ( auto mode), and try to reestablish the connection. This process seems to cause the problem. Good idea to use a fully charged phone, or disabled the rc-phone charging.( rooted phone)

hm it might make sense. Lately i am mostly flying manual and haven't experienced any reboots...but if that is the case it is even worse, because DJI should have tested this and fix it a long time ago....

well it is released, but i cannot see it yet. DJI does rolling release in week(s) time. As the app itself this is also crap, so basically until is available in your region you cannot do anything. they update their site links last...

and i am pretty sure the new fixes are purely air 2 related. And as the restarts are connected to the auto transmission mode, i doubt it will get fixed. Now the focus is on the new drone, i dont't expect any of the reported issues or requested changes to be addressed any time soon.

they won't fix it...it happens most probably due to the automatic transmission mode, switch to manual and choose the channels before taking off...Anyway this won't be an issue with the Air 2 so i doubt it will be on DJI priority list.

My 8+ chrashes also during flight. Storm at the moment, so can't fly now. Did someone try if it helps to set the manual  channel in the Fly-app? Per default it is in automatic channel mode.

i am using it like that in the last 10 flights or so...unfortunately didn't have much disconnects to confirm the theory, but it is definitely plausible...

Update.
Tried in manual mode as stonev proposed. True, fewer crashes/restarts.
But my Note 8 still has restarted a couple of times. It´s an improvement, since before (in AUTO mode), it was crashing/restarting each time when communication was reestablished.

DJI fix this, I will go and return my drone. This is horrible!
