I am a previous owner of a Mavic Pro with lots of flying experience, so was excited to get my hands on a Mavic Mini

On my first flight over the weekend, I flew in a relatively open space but couldn't fly beyond 100m.......twice I tried and got to 100m and 50m, before i lost connection and the phone screen went blank and the RTH (and a bit of panic) kicked in.

Everything else seemed to be fine, video was good and clear, the Mini was stable in moderate winds and the controls seemed to be responsive.

I will try to get out again in the next couple of days to see if the problem persists, but my intial thoughts of the Mavic Mini are not good at all

Same for me in the city, +/-25m depending on the obstacles or interferences...
Try to mentain a clear line, without any obstacles between the remote and the drone. Also try to move the antenas so you have them as much as "perpendicular" to the drone as you can.

Yeah, I wasn't in the city......I was actually in the middle of a lake when it lost connection and RTH'd.

It was a wide open area, but there was a mall about 750m away on one side, so maybe that added to the interference,.....I also had the antenna correct.

I will try again in a different area later this week.

Which model of the remote do you have? One of the models only allowed a maximum range of 500m due to legislations.

Did you have prop guard cage on, this has flight limit when it is on the drone ?

I am in a country (Philippines) with no restrictions.....so was expecting the unrestricted model......but i will check

Interesting, even for the CE version I would think would have better range, except if there was some kind of RF interference, or other kind for that matter.

Yeah I just read even on the CE version......there is a range of 2km at 5.8 GHz and 500m at 2.4 GHz

Would having payload turned on limit your range like that? I haven't turned that on to see what it does on mine yet but I would think it should give you a warning and not just loose connection like that.

I believe it was set to off......but will check when I am out flying next

Same here, I owned a Mavic mini.
I can only fly like 100meter and sometimes not even 100meter and the drone keep RTH. Any solution that can improve the range, DJI shown Mavic Mini can fly 500meter....

I can reach in a CE country 4000m+ with my Mini.

Maybe the Mall was interfering with your signal due to multiple wifi hotspots that are inside malls creating a large interference with the controller signal. Also, the lake may help the inteference from the mall.

I have seen a Youtuber that was flying his Mini for the first time during vacations and he tried to fly the Mini over a lake in the hotel he was staying. He couldn't get more than 20 to 30 meters before losing signal. He wanted to return the Mini when he got back from vacation but decided to try to fly the Mini on an open area. He got more than a 1 Km range and realized that when he was at the hotel over the lake the interference from the hotel guests wifi hot spots were the culprit for the low range of the Mini.

Are you forcing / manually setting to 2,4GHz?
I have the CE version and the interference in my neighborhood is so bad that at 2,4GHz I can do max 150meters.
If I leave it at auto or manually set to 5,8GHz then I can do 600meters.

With a 3rd party antenna (like 4Hawks Raptor SR) I can hit 1km in same neighborhood at 5,8GHz (but 2,8GHz still can only do 200meters lol).

I flew mine to 1.2 km and then back. No probs. Sure I could have easily made 1.5-2km

I don't know what are you talking about, my mini just went yesterday 1.4km (0.87miles) , wich is impressive with no accessories whatsoever. And with a yagi 2.4Ghz range extender it got farther than 2km (1.24 miles). I was skeptical at the beginning but it went no problem near a small airport and a medium sized city. Note that i was flying it to the airport, not from. The problem was in height, it didn't want to go higher than 100m (328 ft), it was losing signal above that. I didn't limit anything. Anyways, i don't know why you want to go higher than 100m.

Unfortunately, the Mini doesn't do very well in the city. It's not easy to find a good place to fly in the city, but it's not impossible.
