Today I wanna share my DaVinci Resolve project settings for Mavic Mini with you:

1. Match the video resolution and fps of the source footage. In my case 2.7k at 25fps.
2. Optimize playback while working in Resolve by lowering the optimized media and render cache quality.
3. Optional: When mixing different fps videos, changing the frame interpolation setting to optical flow might prevent stuttering in the final video.

4. Set image scaling and cropping to your liking, in case of mixing videos
with different resolutions and aspect ratios. For example Mini + GoPro.

ResolveSettings-ImageScaling

ResolveSettings-ImageScaling

5. Set Color Managment to the Minis color space Rec.709, which is greate for color grading.

ResolveSettings-ColorManagement

6. Some optional settings affecting working with colors.

ResolveSettings-General

ResolveSettings-General

7. In the Fusion Tab add a

RemoveNoise Node with: Method: Color (Locked), Softness 0.00024 , Detail 0.024
    or a
Gaussian Blur Node with: Strength 0.1

    to remove the Minis over-sharpening

8. Have fun color grading. I suggest watching some YouTube Videos about that if you are new to DaVinci.
    Some good sources:

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAYVd0fXmRJFkBAaQJRvcuw
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFIRm1Fv1VC4DZxmYyvNOTQ
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn5GD-PNXWyonXQO8rH3vPw
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSyHJ48k9OQUQjQFimxYf9g

9. I myself allways export with the H.264 Master preset at the same resolution as the source video.

ResolveSettings-Deliver

ResolveSettings-Deliver

10. I use a software called Handbrake to compress videos in different resolutions and qualities for the target platforms.
Handbrake gives you access to every setting for H264 and H265 (8bit and 10bit) and other codecs,     so you should allways get the best quality for your target.

Now go out there, have fun flying and filming, and get some cool videos done.

PS: I'm not a Pro at video editing, you are free to post suggestions and correct me ;)

Why do you use that resolution? 2.7k is 2560x1440 ?

Why on earth would you think 2560 would be abbreviated to 2.7K? Where is the 7 coming from you think?

:-) The list of 2.7K depends on how you ask. Gopro has some numbers etc.

2.7k DJI vs GoPro:

DJI: 2720 x 1536 (pixel perfect 16:9 would be 1530 height = +6px = band at bottom)

GoPro: 2704 x 1520 (pixel perfect 16:9 would be 1521 height = -1px)

I always use pixel perfect ratio.

(Height difference causing the band at the bottom is due to compression pixel block size.)

I disagree with you on step 9
With your settings the bit rate of the exported file is always > 100.000 when the original is ~ 40.000. As a result the exported file is much bigger than the original with no reason.

Also I use mp4 instead of Quicktime.

These are my settings

Saving the video at the same Bitrate introduces more compression artifacts. It's like saving a jpeg and reopen and save again at same setting. Try that a few times.

So I want to keep my quality, and don't care about the size, since I just use that video to compress from for target platforms and usually don't keep it.
Also the container doesn't matter, codec is still h264.

Quick question.  I entered the information above  in my preferences and saved it.  But after closing down DR 16 and opening it again, all my saved settings were lost.  How do I save them?  Can I creat a profile (is that what it is called?) and force save the options?  Thanks again for your post.  mraroid

In settings under Preset you can save the current settings as a preset. I haven't tried to make it load that as default since I have different presets. I will look into it when I'm back home.

I just installed DaVinci Resolve 16 and keeps crashing on me when I try to save settings and or perform some tasks.
I did some research and looks like there are a lot of people having issues with NVIDIA cards without support for the Studio Driver.
In my case, I have the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT which doesn't support the Studio Driver.
Could someone recommend a video editing software for a newbie to get my feet wet before I jump all the way in into this and start spending money?
Thanks in advance.

I guess I need to use Handbrake? I can't get my videos to import to resolve. Is there a setting in the DJI app for the Camera or Handbrake?

Click on File on the Davinci Resolve and select import media, then DR will place the video file in the media group for you to drag and drop on the the timeline.

Hi, this is a bit old post, but it's the best approach I've seen to DaVinci Resolve for a DJI Mini. Would you change something with the Mini 2 in addition to the resolution in the timeline?
