The Mini uses a small image sensor, most likely to keep the weight down. And photographers know that small sensors tend to have more noise and lower resolution (even for the same number of pixels) than larger sensors.
So the in-camera JPG conversion tends to lean towards oversharpening. And naturally, with that sharpening, we get exaggerated noise.
Your shot was taken in fairly low light, so that's the most difficult case, of course. I've noticed the noise, too, when shooting stills in low light with the Mini.
While there's not much they can do about the hardware, what DJI could do for us with only a firmware/software change, is to give us RAW mode shooting.
RAW would let us get the most possible from the sensor we have.
Of course, Adobe would have to play ball, too, and update ACR to do RAW conversions of the Mini's camera's files. Or DJI would need to supply a stand-alone RAW converter for us. That's all doable, however! |
