Hi,

I just got my P4R a couple of days ago, so now i'm getting used to how everything works. I've already encountered one major problem: the camera-settings (more specifically for video mode) are extremely limited. In my P4Pro, there 's the possibility to switch between PAL and NTSC modes (25fps as opposed to 30fps, which is a big deal when you're in Europe > 30fps basically is absolutely worthless for us). No such thing on the P4R... Which is a bit of a problem for me, as i was planning to sell my P4P now that i have the P4R. I was hoping the functionalities of the the P4R would be the same. Appears they're not, even if DJI states that the cameras on both aircraft are identical.

Apparently if you buy the SDK-remote, you càn get into the detailed camera-settings when using GSPro. And apparently with the SDK remote you can also install 3rd party apps, another thing that is impossible with the standard remote.

Anybody found a workaround for this? Or do i actually have to buy the SDK remote?

Thx,

Peter

The concept of PAL and NTSC are outdated and obsolete. They do not exist in HD, as they are video encoding standards used in the days of analogue television. All imaging in the DJI aircraft adheres to High Definition digital standards. The only relevance they have today is when shooting artificial light sources that are locked to a different frequency, such that 50 Hz mains is more common in Europe. And that can be dealt with by choosing an appropriate shutter speed.

Are you asking about the P4 RTK?
Your questions are about video settings but the P4 RTK is a specialised (and expensive) drone made for precision surveying applications rather than general use and video shooting.

Unless you are using it for surveying, you'd be much better off with a general purpose drone which will cost much less.

Sorry but you're wrong. In the HD-world (as in 4K) PAL and NTSC may be outdated concepts, but the frame rate is an important factor. Video shot in 30fps is totally unusable in Europe. So for us Europeans DJI might just as well have deleted the video-recording capabilities on the P4R. Unless of course there would be a way of switching the frame rate, just as you can on all "regular" DJI-drones...

I of course have bought the P4R for surveying purposes. But as I said: I already own a P4P, which DOES have the detailed camera settings, and I was hoping I could use the P4R equally for video, so I would be able to sell my P4P and get some of my investment in he P4R back.

No. YOU are wrong. The frame rate of 30 fps can be played on any player,  computer, phone, tablet or TV set anywhere in the world, because it is a simple MPEG stream. None of those devices care about the frame rate. The only issue, as I pointed out, is shooting artificial light, such as flourescent fixtures, where you will get strobing due to the difference between the 30 fps rate and the local mains power frequencies.

No point in this discussion... Yes: you are correct saying that 30fps video can be played on any consumer device. But I'm working for broadcast (1st line of business, 2nd is drone-operator) and there's absolutely no way any European TV-station or DVD/Blu-ray authoring facility is going to accept material shot @ 30fps. It would need transcoding ergo loss of quality. And THAT is why all other DJI-drones have the choice between 24, 25, 29.97, 30, etc frame rates.
That being said: my question stands. Is there a way to get the P4R shoot video @ 25fps?

In that case, as Labroides has already said, you bought the wrong aircraft. No, unless DJI decide to add the ability to the image processor. But given that mapping is the main aim of the P4RTK, I suspect it is not going to be in their list of priorities.

Well no: I did buy the aircraft I wanted to. And in fact it has got nothing to do with the capabilities of the image processor, as I know there IS a solution to my problem... I just have to buy the SDK controller that goes with the P4R, as that one works with eg. an iPad, on which GSPro can be installed, which in turn works with the P4R AND actually enables the detailed camera-settings. (I know this from a colleague who did this exact thing). So in fact it's a 100% software-related matter, which would be VERY easy for DJI to add in an upgrade. But -of course- they rather have us fork out another 700€ to buy the SDK controller instead of implementing it for free in the standard P4R controller... Profit as opposed to customer satisfaction I'm afraid.

Do you know how can I set focus to infinity in P4R?

Hi everyone, in searching for an answer to my question I saw this post and in similarity it's in relation to the P4RTK.  One thing I'm noticing with this unit outside of any of the other units is that ALL my photos, even the survey photos, seem to have the black edges around the photos.  Do either of you perhaps why this is or how I can fix this?  Is this a warrantee issue?  Or is this normal?  It doesn't seem to matter the daylight, the edges will be a bit black, more noticeable in sunny days obviously.

Any ideas?  DJI??

My processed data does not seem to care about this, however, when I want to just take a few extra shots at the end of a survey flight without yanking out my Mavic or M200 makes pretty good sense.  I was disappointed as well to not have the same functionality, but if I can clear up the black edges I'll be happy.

Check your camera settings. There's a button "distortion correction". If you set this to "on" you won't have the black edges anymore. For processing and stitching it's best to leave it off.

HEY THANKS!  I will check that on my next flight, it's likely off since it is recommended that this be off during photogrammetry and 3D flights, so I just need to add this to my "checklist" as to when I choose to use this unit for that purpose.

Cheers from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada!
