Behind is not the problem, the RTH height was just too low.

First 44 second of the flight had some great scenery.  The lesson I learned from this video is if you are going to fly behind something and take a chance of losing signal then I better have the RTH altitude set high enough to clear whatever I'm flying behind.  Super glad he got his MM back with only minor scratches...could have been much worse.

The Mavic see's the rock and thinks to itself "do I have obstacle avoidance?" after a short period of thought it says says to itself "nope" and proceeds to smash into the rock.

Amazing that it recovered from the crash and didn't just fall out the sky.

I know that was dangerous, and the pilot was very lucky.  But that really made for a great video!

RTH did exactly what it was supposed to, it was just incorrectly configured

The three most useless things in aviation are runway behind you, altitude above you, and fuel not in your tanks.

The Mini had altitude & power to self correct...  runway optional.

I forgot the 'I'
I never trust RTH.
Way too many examples of too much confidence in technology that lead to accidents.
People panicking pressing RTH and.....

I know you can make precautions to prevent most accidents. But still it is too much of a risk for me.
So far I never had to use it.

MP warned me when I was too close to either the end of my battery or the end of my signal range and I flew back manually.

That is just how I like to do it.
Be in control myself.
