I had recently replaced my GoPro Hero 5 and Karma Grip with the new DJI Osmo Pocket, and I couldn’t be more happier. The biggest issue I had with Karma Grip is its sheer size. The Osmo Pocket is tiny, yet it’s packed with impressive features such as ActiveTrack, Motionlapses, and recently added Hyperlapse function. A few seconds start up time also means you are less likely to miss that perfect shot, especially if you’re an adventure seeking traveller like me. But personally for me, the highlight of this 3-axis stabilized handheld camera is its portability. It is literally a pocket camera that fits almost anywhere, which means less gear to pack and more shooting on the go.

Tip #1: Utilze Inteligent Functions[size=14.6667px]Osmo Pocket isn't just a small compact camera. With many inteligent feautures to choose from, it trully enables the user to unleash his/hers creativity. My favourite of them all is AcitiveTrack. I use this function a lot, especially when creating a Hyperlapse (more on this below), or keeping the subject in the center of the picture.

Tip #2: Create Smooth Hyperlapse
[size=14.6667px]To shoot an awesome hyperlapse can really be a time-consuming process. The good news, Osmo Pocket comes with a built-in hyperlapse function. To enable this feature, turn on the device and enter the menu. Under Timelapse, you'll find a setting called Hyperlapse. From there you can control the speed of your hyperlapse which ranges from 2x to 30x. It is really an effortless and cool effect to add to your vidoes, however if you want a little bit more polished and "pro" result, such as captured in my video, I recommend to speed up your footage in post (1000x - 2000x), add motion blur (right click in Premier Pro > Speed/Duration > Time Interpolation > Frame Blending) and finish off with a warp stabilizer.  Also, a great workaround to shoot hyperlapse in Portait Mode.

Tip #3: Shoot in Portrait Mode
[size=14.6667px]Why shoot in landscape mode, only to crop it later, when you can shoot in portrait from the beginning. Osmo Pocket enables you to do just that, by simply rotating the device until the screen switches to being vertical and the Osmo Pocket automatically changes to Portrait mode. I frequently use this feature, if I want to post something on Instagram stories, or as mentioned in my previous tip, to capture a hyperlapse of a tall building/statue without cropping the picture.

Your three tips are damn useful. I have OSMO Mobile, but it doesn’t suit me very much. The smartphone is still difficult to suspend and the picture is not always perfect. Your advice makes me think about buying OSMO Pocket.

Thanks for your comment! Yes I definitely recommend you to try Osmo Pocket, I don’t think anyone realizes how small it is until they hold it in their hand. Super small and portable and hardy noticeable, perfect for discrete filming .. you can also connect it to your phone, so you can have a bigger screen and more on screen options
