I don’t see how this will reduce the number of fly always, if users think they can fly home in stronger winds then you will simply get more risking this and you will still have those who don’t bother to know how strong the wind is flying in all kinds of winds.
Simply because strong winds are less likely than weaker winds. Think at the extremes: let's assume you completely and ignore every recommendation and you fly every day for a month, regardless of conditions. Let's also say you always and only use RTH to bring the AC back home. If RTH were 1mph, you would lose the AC 28 times, because you have perfectly calm conditions only 2 days a month. If the RTH were 25mph, you would lose the AC only 4 times, because for the other 26 days the wind was never above 25mph. I'm making the numbers up, but hopefully you get the idea.
None of this makes any common sense, first there is no emergency I think trying to change the parameters of the Mavic mini, which I have to say match up to the more expensive and substantial spark because those who couldn’t be bothered to check conditions they are flying in and call that an emergency is a bit ridiculous.
It’s a fact that many have lost mavics sparks and phantoms exactly the same way and if you went to the archives of their forums you would see many also looking for speed to be changed because people were loosing their drones.
But what this tells us is pretty clear, that no matter what you set the parameters at you will get the same people flying exactly the same way, yes it might save some but it will encourage others and because I’ve seen this with other drones that Rth faster it’s clear that it’s not going to solve anything.
I think it’s as DB said in his post , being nanny to those who don’t care anyway, I think as he posted making people aware of what they are flying how it handles the pitfalls of flying outside it’s parameters, this will help others learn .
People have to face it, they didn’t buy a Mavic pro or air, they bought a much smaller lighter less equipped drone, they should never expect it to preform like these drones and calling something an emergency doesn’t help anything.
As I said in an earlier post if possible dji may increase the pitch to allow craft to fly slightly faster, but I really don’t think they will or need to increase this drone to fly in sports mode or an emergency Rth , I’m certain that this may cause consternation with health and safety here in Europe, can you imagine dji telling those in need of passing their drone as safe to fly now being told that Rth needs emergency Rth and if that doesn’t work what then, a very big emergency Rth .
I don’t think this will help, I do think education will help and maybe dji fall short on this and they need to do more. |
