My 2019 highlights undoubtedly have to be the great trips I’ve taken this year with my Osmo Pocket.
I had a great time visiting Oman and Dubai-from high up in the mountains to down in desert valleys.
I managed to cram 3 timelapses in this film. I got up at dawn for the sunrise over the Dubai skyline. The change in light was to great to calculate so I used auto settings for this.
The timelapse with the clouds over the Oman canyon I used an ND1000 filter to allow 3 sec intervals at 1”. This allowed smooth cloud movement.
The final lapse with the dawn shadows stretching over the canyon was also done utilising the Osmos very capable auto function, as the light was constantly changing.
Night scenes were much harder. There was a ton of footage I couldn’t use as too dark/grainy.
I’m a big believer in less is more when filming. For this film, I do think that a relatively decent video editor is essential. Whichever one it is, spend a small amount of time learning and some meh footage is quite easy to turn into ‘yeah’.
This was edited in Final Cut Pro, in a 25fps timeline. I filmed everything in 50fps as I knew I would be placing in a 25fps timeline (which is close enough to the holy grail of 24fps), but the added bonus is I was able to slow down anything in post if I wanted to.
