There are many situations where it would be nice to be able to turn off those sensors, and other situations where it's just plain stupid to turn off the sensors. The biggest myth is that the VPS sensors can force your drone to get sucked down into water, and that you're somehow better off disabling the sensors any time you choose to fly over water. That's not true at all.
I posted several videos in this thread on the Mavicpilots forum explaining and demonstrating how the Mini behaves with and without the downward height sensors enabled.
