When we got back to the hotel we had a quick meal in the bar then just sat by the fire and chilled-out the rest of the evening. (Oh, we had a couple of whiskies too)

As I understand it, the Scots know a thing or two about whisky and the hotel had numerous good ones worth trying, as you rightly say, we didn't like to be rude.
