OK, so WHY when i plug my Mini into DJI assist,  it is showing my current firmware:   1.00.04   but NO NEW Firmware to update to? -  Where is this 1.0.8 coming from?

The firmware is on the on-board hardware (Mini and its RC) currently 1.04, the update is done via DJI assistant. The application is on your smartphone / tablet, it's Dji Fly currently 1.0.8, the update is done via the app store (Android or iOs). There is no need for the two numbers to be identical.

You need to update the app, DJI FLY itself, not the drone firmware
