yep, maybe one should instead go out and buy the autel evo 2, that way you can choose between the Orangesky  (instead of Crystalsky) or the Live Controller Deck (instead of Smart Controller) or the Goggles Robotics Edition (instead of Goggles Racing Edition)....oh, wait.....

j/k I have the evo 2 pro, it's a lovely drone.

yes it does.  that's my primary setup, now I can actually see where my evo 2 pro is flying during the day.

I'll wait till the end of September. Since the smart controller will work with the EVO 2, I may just go that route. We get too much sun in Florida to be able to see a smartphone on it. DJI should have made all their drones compatible with their smart controller before putting them on the market. Kind of like "the carriage in front of the horse".

That sounds pretty unlikely.
The Evo 2 would have to be equipped with OcuSync 2.0for it to work (and it isn't).

Tsk Tsk Tsk!!! I now see why many folks are selling their DJI drones on eBay and other sites. It's bad enough that I live in an area with very few safe fly zones, but I still have to connect my iPhone to the controller, which has it's own issues.

We really need an update from DJI with this issue. I purchase my Mavic Air 2 and the Smart Controller because they promise will be compatible within 2 weeks but we are still waiting.

I've seen this mentioned a number of time but couldn't quite understand so I'll ask.  so you purchased the ma2 AND the smart controller knowing they are not compatible today but thinking they will be compatible tomorrow (based on comments from dji) and you have no other drone that will work with the smart controller?  is that a fair statement?

I am a DJI supporter. I have 3 drones.
Mavic 2 Pro, Mavic 2 Air and the Mavic Mini.
My last purchase was the Mavic Air 2 and i also bought the Smart Controller together hoping i can use both drones with the controller. I was thinking on sell the Mini in order to fly everything from the Smart Controller. Convenience of no cables and easy setup to fly.

ok. I have the same except my m2p is m2z. it will be nice when scm works with ma2 but prob never going to happen for mm.

My prediction for SC compatibility with  MA2 will come with mavic 3 release.

Will Mavic 3 use DJI Go 4 or DJI Fly ?

If it uses "Fly" SC compatibility will be part of an update
If it uses Go 4 then it should  work with the SC!

That's exactly me.

I want to fly in bright sunlight so bought the SC because DJI said it will work with the MA2.

That was 2 months ago.

I have the smartcontroller ... but I must say that the new samsung note 20 with 1500 nits exceeds it in terms of brightness and performance.

I would say that now there is a good alternative. The smartcontroller has a very weak cpu and a very old operating system and...very few updates.

It all depends on how you read DJI's response. They clearly said that the SC will be compatible with a future update. What do they call future is the question....weeks, months?  I'll happen. It will be a PR nightmare not to make it compatible.

it also happened with the phantom v4, they had indicated that it would be compatible, and now it is! but after a year, so I guess that before mid 2021 you will not see it :-(

DJI has never provided a timeline around compatibility.  They have just said "a future firmware update".  Some YouTubers had speculated dates, but unfortunately DJI has not provided any ETA.
