As per my first post My Mavic Mini storage box (props anti-stress)  -  https://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=212984&page=1&extra=#pid2128625

I decided to take action. See videos and images in the next reply
Cheers!

Here's the modification I made

First part of the video show the stress on the blades in the case witout modification. Then you can see the effect on the blades with modification to the case.
The modification on the picture attached  is courtesy of  120ccpm (see his post #8).

This is actually quite helpful! Shame there is a need to do this but hopefully DJI may change up the case design in the future.

On my case, the center piece is high enough such that the blades can't touch the bottom. Maybe they changed the design?

Absolutely,You are right, when you say the center piece is high enough but, the problem is on the front part. Raising the front part should sufficiant but I prefer also to add  the small foam piece near vision system instead the center piece. This way, the blades under the drone have room to move freely.

I don't suggest anyone to do it but the little piece of foam under the camera is, in my opinion, a must.

Cheers !

Agree,

a slight modification would do the trick (in front and also the central part).

Salut JGFly! I have a cheap eBay case for the MM, and I did exactly what you did: small piece of foam on the front (gimbal cover) and one on the back, with the bottom blades almost free to move. For the top blades, I have another piece of foam, not glued to anything, sitting on top of the AC between the motors, so the case cover pushes on it rather than blades. I tried two types of blade protectors (silicone and hard plastic) but did not like them.

Hi 120ccpm ! I like your   ''Salut'',   It make me smile,  thanks !

So, I'm not alone with this idea.

I like the way you go for top part between the motors. I just test your idea, here's the new addon to my mini case.

Thanks to you for sharing !

À votre santé Sir   -   Cheers !

I believe the purpose of the flat pad is to carry the weight of the Mini on its body and allowing props (if properly positioned) to hang free in front.  It appears to me with that platform removed you are now carrying the weight on the gimbal cover. Not sure that's a good idea if the case takes much of a hit or drop.

Je vous en prie! I use a piece of foam that is exactly the same width as yours (so it fits between the motors) but mine runs for the entire length of the MM body. It's also a bit thicker (or so it seems from the photo), so that anything pushing down on the AC will put pressure on the foam and not the props.

@Raymache: gimbal cover seems pretty sturdy, and considering how it's designed and how it locks into position, I think it could carry a lot of weight without problems.

Hi Ice_2k and TDZHDTV,

Let me prepare the answer. I need Google translation to fine tune my English (French to English) Also, I need a little time just to be sure that my explanations are understandable. Also, I have to fix Google once it has translated because sometimes it is not perfect. See you later (after lunch)

Hi again Ice_2k

I just finished my checks and the writing of the text. I still have to translate with Google and then check its translation. (LOL)

Will come back in a few minutes !

P.S. Video at the begginning is modified

Dear Ice_2k, in response to your question, I must say you are absolutely right about the space between the bottom of the Combo case and the propellers in the front part of the MM (camera side). There is enough space and therefore, no problem. You force me, and I thank you very much, to modify my approach on the need (in my opinion) to modify this famous Combo case. I modified the video and again, thanks to your questioning. I can't say it enough, THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND thank you again for posting about this.

As far as I'm concerned, the simple fact of seeing these small propellers undergo a certain stress among them, however small it is, justifies that it is necessary to modify the Combo box, especially with all these conclusions made by those who analyze the Log files for events of `` Max power messages and Not enough force '' etc. etc. and who often conclude by suspecting the propellers having been distorted or with often an altered pitch or both possibilities at the same time or something similar.

As you can see, at the beginning of the video (modified), I perceive a friction between these propellers (camera side) when stored in the box. Well, okay, it's not huge you will say but the problem still exists especially if the MM is stored for a long time with the propellers positioned on top of each other. But, on closer inspection, the stress is even less present if the propellers are oriented towards the front (at an angle of + - 30 °). See picture.

So, removing the bulge at the bottom of the box, allows small and fragile propellers to rest freely as shown in the video. I could be wrong but too bad, the good side of things is that I was able to occupy myself a little by tinkering for the storage box (for long periods of inactivity) and this Combo box for my trips to the field of practice ..

Finally, the addition suggested by 120ccpm (Post # 8, 9 and 11) adds increased security for the propellers on top of the MM.

He's probably found a way to clear even more space and keep the AC even steadier.

Even if the Combo case can accomodate the folded props nothing prevents them from flapping open inside the case or being trapped in the push bumps and remain constricted there (especially when the case is being shaken like during a hike)... with his mod the props are safe and encase in a position where they cannot get trapped.

I personally use soft cable ties to bundle them together, I believe a good balance between practicality and effectiveness... but there are still better solutions, this might be one.

And for a longer period of inactivity, this kind of compartment for complete rest of the propellers.Anti-Stress long storage box
