For Electric, I recommend going brushless, loads more power. I own the Traxxas 1/16 E-Revo VXL and it is great to start with. Arrma also has a few amazing 1/10 scales, i.e. the 3s lineup, Granite BLX, Typhon BLX, Vortex BLX, etc. for about 320. Traxxas is easier to start with, but aren't as durable while Arrmas are of higher quality. It depends what you plan to do with it.

I know am a bit late but, I would actually recommend an electric brushless car.  This is the place I bought for my nephew and it's been great so far.
