Flying the Mavic 2 Pro today and out of the blue I got the message "Switched to Backup IMU",  followed by "Navigation System Redundancy Switch" and various messages about obstacle avoidance being off.  Thenthe screen went black for about 5 seconds,  I genuinely thought I'd lost it.  When the screen came back I flew straight home and landed.  Now debating if I need to do an IMU calibration or is this a common thing,  I have about 157 flights so far and have never seen this before.

Good thing is if you had the Air 2 instead the drone would probably be gone... for those saying that the lack of a redundancy system isn't a flaw.
Happy that you didn't lose your bird man

Scary stuff.
Maybe the log files will reveal something?

The log files just show these messages.

I would toss in an IMU calibration to see if the prime and secondary imu units take the calibration...
Might show if there is an issue.

Thanks for the suggestion,  it certainly wouldn't hurt to try that,  I did notice my second gyro was a little worse than the primary.

OK,  So I did the IMU calibration and then flew for 15 minutes no higher than 8 feet just in case and no warning appeared.  Heres how my IMU is looking,  does this look OK?

Thanks Woe,  I just need to take it somewhere empty for a few test flights before I get confidence in it again.

I can imagine... lost connection once when I flew behind a mountain (I was filming an inhabited island literally in the middle of the Atlantic)... scared the hell out of me as RTH didn't kicked immediately. My fault 100%, drone came back triumphant nevertheless

I have my fingers crossed for that,  just need to do a few flights where I can recover it easily if there is an issue as I still have DSJI refresh on it and warranty.

Thats good to know, I did a calibration and now need to do some test flights somewhere I can retrieve it from easily if the worst happens.

I just had the same problem on my mavic zoom. I managed to bring the drone back, but it still hit the ground hard, and it took me more than a good minute to shut down the engines, the controls being blurred. I've never had this problem in over 80 flights?!

Check you IMU calibration,  I did that after my issue and afterwards the graph was much lower.

One thing you can do to help reduce damage to the drone if you lose control, is get a parachute system for it.  I saw it on YouTube and it is called parazero I believe.   The only downside is the price, $1500 US.  That is what I paid for my Mavic 2 Pro!  However, considering that is reusable and can save your drone from severe and costly damage, I think it is worth it.  It will also increase your chance of getting a waiver from the FAA  as it is a safety device.

I don't fly in the USA so probably not a lot og help to me.

And sadly on flight 6 after calibration were back to the switching to backup IMU messages and dropping video briefly.
